JL Audio CR-1 Crossover Impressions

There was a fair amount of pre-release excitement about the CR-1 but I haven't read much about real world experiences on this forum.

I would prefer not to complicate my signal path with another box but have to admit that I'm curious about the potential impact the CR-1 (and a high pass filter) might have.

Have others had success pairing the CR-1 and Gotham(s) with full range speakers?

I'm also interested to hear about the cr-1. If I remember correctly, many have had great success integrating subs with the cr-1 if your subs and mains are equidistant. I don't believe you can account for the distance if you place your subs behind the mains. There are some digital products that do but not my cup of tea. FYI, I don't use the gothams for stereo for this reason.

Just got mine from a fellow on audiogon the other day. Talked to Barry, what a great guy with a lot of knowledge, at JL Audio about the set up with my two f-113's. going to spend some time in the next few days and see how everything works.

Love mine. It is always on and works like a dream. Allowed me to run Esoteric DAC and HT receiver into same amps. The receiver is off and not in the chain while the system is used for 2 channel. Bass is dialed in regardless of application. It does exactly what it is advertised as doing. Worth every penny.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

After quite a bit of experimentation, I've landed on a crossover setting of 35 with my large full range speakers and that can vary depending upon the source material. I have a single Gotham which is located centrally and in the back of the room. This combination is well integrated and the bass really does seem to come from the mains from my listening position.

The addition of a CR-1 would probably be most interesting if I were to add a second Gotham and place the pair next to the mains. That would provide the the flexibility to experiment with significantly higher crossover points. With the right size room, I'm sure that would be one hell of a setup.

I think I've landed in a very good place and have all the bass I could want. If I had smaller speakers or a significantly larger space, I would have been more inclined to go down the multiple sub path with the CR-1.
