Wyred 4 Sound Server, Preamp, DAC and more

I am surprised there have been no comments on the Wyred 4 Sound Music Server, Preamp, DAC, ST Integrated and 7-channel amp on display at RMAF. Did anyone spend time listening? Impressions?

I am also interested. Pricing?

The new W4S server was a static display at the show. The price is yet to be announced, no shipping date has been either.

The DAC2 is a huge seller for them, look for that price to change soon. Their Integrated STI-500 and STI-1000 models sound great and are priced at $1500 and $2000 respectively.

I spent my time there speaking with Rick Cullen formally of Cullen Design Circuits.

What they can do with a SonoS is simply amazing!

The W4S Sonos mod doesn't interest me, but the Wyred 4 Sound Music Server does. I have been able to find some information on it.

Wyred 4 Sound Product Roll Out Info

The Wyred 4 Sound Music Server iuses a maintenance free operating system based on Linux and a customized output that feeds S/PDIF (coax and optical) to any existing DAC or direct I²S into the W4S DAC‐2 via HDMI. The server can be configured with up to a 3TB hard drive, and is accessible/controllable using Squeezebox, Sonos and many other common controlling software, also Apple devices such as iTouch, iPhone and iPad as well as Android devices and phones. Files can be streamed up to 24/192 with no wireless compression. An Internet and a wireless network is required.

The Wyred 4 Sound Music Server has been simplified to avoid the need for customizations and to eliminate the learning curve that comes with traditional computer streaming. As a result of this direct approach and digital output there are no concerns about properly setting up DSP’s or output modes such as kernel streaming or integer playback. The most difficult decision will be what CD to rip next!

• Easy one time setup!
• Compatible with ANY DAC
• Coax, Toslink, and I²S Digital outputs
• USB or Network file uploading
• Onboard Tag editor
• Auto-rips CDs with internal drive!
• Compatible with Logitech and Sonos software
• Ethernet connection to allow for wireless control, internet radio and tag editing
• Internet radio and 3rd party apps such as Pandora, Rhapsody, Spotify, and more!
• Optional high performance power supply to be released at a later date
• New Chassis Design

I'm thinking the combination of a Wyred 4 Sound Music Server feeding the Wyred 4 Sound DAC using I²S digital outputs, and a 3TB hard drive is going to be a high performace package that should be amazing. The total price should be decent, too.

Dan,

The music server looks ok and does have some interesting features. I asked for pricing and availability. Was told that they are still finalizing things but do expect it will be around $2K.

So, they are pricing it to be in the same range of the Bryston BDP 1 (although a different type of server) and below the Olive units with the digital output.

They also want to sell direct at full retail.

jdandy 10-18-2011 06:21 PM

Mike.......I think the W4S Music Server and DAC2 are going to be a killer combination at a great price.

Ivan.......Even at full retail direct from Wyred 4 Sound, the Music Server and DAC2 still represents and amazing value. Add a 3TB NAS hard drive and you are rolling with a top of the line server. If I didn't already own the McIntosh MS750, this is the way I would go.

Sorry Dan. Until they produce standard sized components they are not on my radar. I skipped the room.

A pair of monos side by side are the same size as a standard sized component. Same for their music server and DAC side by side. ;)
