For me it was since day 1 I was into hifi I loved their design the most, but I couldn't afford the ones I wanted at that time (18 years old), so I went other speakers first.

Dave.......My Sonus faber journery began with the SF Cremona Auditors, then the Guarneri Memento's, and now the Amati Anniversario's. The Cremona Auditors were surprisingly good at their price point. The Guarneri Memento's were excellent, especially once I added subwoofers and a Bryston 10B Sub active crossover to the mix. I now have the Amati Anniversario speakers in Graphite and absolutely love them. Pure music.

My path to SF was pretty straight forward. I had just sold my large Hales System 2 signatures and needed a speaker that would fit my new small dedicated room. My dealer had the last two pairs of GH's that were imported into the US. He told me that the new Mementos were on order and that he needed to move the GH's to make room for the Mementos. Since I needed a small speaker and the price was in budget, the rest seemed like a no brainer. I had heard the pair of GH's in his store before and thought they were ok, although he didn't really have them optimized..So therefore I thought with a little luck I could make them sound better in my system. Once I had them installed, I knew that they were keepers...the difference between the in store demo and my room was huge! These were definitely the horse for this course, lol. After a few years I matched them up with my ARC D70mk 2 and once again, the GH's took off!

Thanks all for your posts. It's been interesting to read how others landed on SF speakers.
I've recently installed a Lyra Etna cartridge and it has pushed my system in exactly the direction I was hoping. While I love the warmth and bloom of the Futuras, I was missing some of the dynamic slam, detail and extension that I had with the Sashas. The Etna retains all of the midrange warmth and bloom of the Air Tight PC1, but with greater high and low extension and dynamics. In some systems it might be too lean, but seems just right with the Amati Futuras and Doshi tube electronics. Just another reminder to me that it's all about the total system, not the individual components. |

I had B&W 802D's and I replaced them with Sonus Faber Amati Futura's about 2 year's ago. I was very happy with the 802's until I heard the Amati's. The main reason why I changed was the better bass response, better detail, the highs from the 802's wore you down…fatigue. My two cents is that I went from a good entry level speaker to a great....higher end sound with the Amati's. I run Classe CAM 400's with this system and I am very happy with the Sonus Faber results.
I would also state that I think the original SF Amati's look nicer than the current lineup. Just my 2 cents. I saw them at AXPONA and they look plain to me. I have the original chrome end caps and they go very well with my Grand Prix stands etc. I do have my eye on the Il Cremonese as an upgrade. I originally loved the Lilium, but I think that the Il Cremonese sound better and takes up less space. |
My travels started with the amazing Bose 301s back in the mid '70s. I the listened to a couple of pairs of what were comparatively junk speakers bought at big box retailers. About six years ago, I wanted to actually purchased some quality equipment since I could finally afford something. The wife and I were looking around and listened to some Magnepans and a few others in our <$2,000 price range when we heard some used SF Grand Piano Domus. I really liked them and my wife loved them, so we walked out with a speaker brand I had never considered owning. We greatly enjoy them but they are very polite. I considered some higher end SF, but I think I am going to get a pair of Rockport Technology Atrias if my poorly laid out room can bring out enough of their magnificence. I am always open to feedback on my system and plans.
