Golden Ear Award

As if Lamm didn't already have plenty of awards but here is another one to add to the list.. :D

"M1.2 Reference amplifiers received a 2009 Golden Ear Award,
from the Absolute Sound (issue #193, June/July 2009).

"The M1.2 combines large peak-current delivery and low output impedance for minimal load interaction. Because it includes a tube in the signal path it's a breeze to integrate into a system. Bass control and pitch definition are exceptional, but it goes well beyond traditional solid-state virtues. Its sonic character is warmer and more liquid. Harmonic colors are reproduced with convincing fidelity, including soprano voice and violin. Its transient speed of attack and sublime control of transient decay, which account for its capacity to dig deep into a recording's noise floor to elucidate reverberant information, are impressive. This is a superbly engineered real-world product that is a pleasure to use. Its siren song of suave harmonic textures, right bass control, articulate transients, kinetic drive and essential tonal neutrality is musically most persuasive. I find its performance-level clearly worthy of the Reference appellation. A sonic masterpiece!"

It should make Vladimir Lamm feel good, not that he hasn't been spoiled by all the positive reviews already. To the end user, the reviews are one thing but listening to them in your own system is something else all together. :music:

WOW Serge, It must sound better allready

Anyway, A friend of mine has just bought the Lamm 2.1's - the 18 watt SET's driving of all things, Sonus Faber Amati Palladio's. He says they are wonderful and a BIG step up from the 1.2's. He indicates no issues in driving the Amati's and his room is not huge.

Time for an upgrade?? :scratch2:

I've heard the virtues of the 2.1s but 18w may be enough for some depending on their listening habits and choice of music but not quite enough for others. If I had 95dB efficient speakers, I would not hesitate but the Sophia 2s are not 95dB efficient. The 110w of pure class A and additional 500w of A/B on top of that from my "hybrid" amps keeps me very happy with my current speakers. If my speakers change in the future to a more efficient design, I will definitely consider the 2.1s. :music: Of course the real "holy grail" are the new ML3 Reference monoblocks but at $140k..... :tears:

At my local lamm dealer they have the 2.1s hooked up to a pair of magicio minis which are 85db, with stunning results. When the owner of the store was telling Vladimir about this he could not believe it himself, supporting the fact that not all watts are created equally. I would imagine they would give your sophia's a run for their money as well.

Auditioned LAMM 1.1 with Avantgarde Uno Picco while helping a friend build her system...the 1.1's are push-pull at about 90W. I have to tell you that these are so far better than all of Mc's offerings tried(MC275, MC2102, Mc2301, MC501 the Mc dealer was trying to sell and lugged all the way to the AG dealer to try) in this set up that it is not even funny..Have also tried the AG's with AirTight, Tri, Cary etc but the LAMM's are head and shoulders above all of them

Was so impressed by the 1.1's that...hmm bought their 2.1 SET "blind" to match with C500/MCD500 and AG Duo Omega...

Now must choose cables (my least favorite chore) :(
