So, what is the status of Plinius in the USA these days?
For a few years, it looked like Plinius was getting some heavy attention in the US. I auditioned some of their gear at dealers & really liked some of what I heard. Have in the past considered some of their integrated amps, but for one reason or another, I've always gone another direction.
Now? None of the dealers I know of carry the line anymore, and don't see nearly the mention of any of their current gear. So, what's the scoop? :scratch2: |
WOW!
That post of mine was just a couple days over 2 years ago. Never got a response, and in that time I've had more than a few friends consider Plinius gear - mostly based on ebay listings. They turn to me as an "expert." I've told anyone who asked to make their own mind up based on sound & possible lack of any further service. DO know one person who went ahead and purchased an 9100. |
I got to play around with some of their components. Their amps ran extremely hot (165 degrees) even at idle.
|
According to their dealer search they currently have active dealers in 13 US states. They do offer some nice sounding gear but there seem to be many other more actively promoted lines available.

I own an SA-102 as does a friend and another who owns the newer SA-103, all 'cool as a cucumber' until biased into Class A |

Audio Video Therapy in Nashua NH has the Plinius line. They had the SA-103 hooked up to a pair of Aerial 7T's. The combination was quite impressive.

I have two SA-103s. I absolutely love them.

I owned a Hautonga for a while. It was a great amp. I puchased it at AV Therapy in Nashua NH.

I have a 103 and mostly run it in AB mode. Great amp. Don't have an urge to upgrade at all.

i own a plinius hiato integrated amp running thiel cs-6's. its just amazing. i auditioned rowland continuum II and mc7000 integrated in my theater room and the plinius won hands down. can listen all day with no fatigue.

I have a Plinius 8200 with the Galbo Designs Ultimate Mod and it is amazing!! Very detailed, lots of separation around instruments, depth, and big big soundstage extending out beyond the speakers at time. Lately it's been my preamp that feeds a custom built pair of James Burgess monoblocks that feed my Zu Audio Omen MKII loudspeakers. It's a very nice match.

I was quite interested in their SB 301 (class AB) until it became clear to me how much heat it put out even at idle. Otherwise a very nice, powerful amp at a good price.

Who is Plinius?
Never heard of 'em. If there was an integrated I'd be interested in, it would be Hegel. |

The 8200 was very much on my radar for a while, but at the time(s), I went in other directions. Would love to read more about your amp. |
I saw several reviews over the years but never visited a dealer who carried the line.

They have nice gear, that has often been favourably reviewed.
If I'm not mistaken, Ivan carried the brand a while ago. |
Rhapsody Audio currently carries Plinius here in the USA.
