It still uses the ES9028PRO rather than the latest DAC, the ES9038PRO

The DC950 does use the ESS9038PRO, so that DAC already exists - albeit at a price that puts it out of range for most mortals.

In the old days, the DP720 SACD player used a 9018-variant and the DC37 used that too so in essence the DC37 was very, very similar to the player's DAC section. The new DP750 uses an ESS9028PRO; so I'm kinda expecting a new DC37 based on ESS9028PRO.

Which it does

According to the specs published, one can expect a sonic leap forward with the DG-68 vs DG-58:

1) AD: The 8ch AD (4ch in parallel for each Stereo channel) allows for sample rates of up to 352.8 kHz (DXD), higher s/n ratio and much lower THD. (DG-58 2ch AD up to 176.4 kHz).
2) DSP: The higher calculating power of the DSP may allow for filter calculation at 352.8 kHz (DXD). (DG-58 max 176.4 kHz).
3) DSD downsampling: The downsampling from digital DSD inputs may go to 352.8 kHz (DXD). (DG-58 176.4 kHz).
4) HS-Link: HS-Link v2 supported (separate signal and clock lines). (DG-58 HS-Link v1 common signal/clock line). Advantage when used with a HS-Link v2 capable transport (i.e. DP-950).
5) DA: The DA (ES9028Pro) corresponds to the DA of the DP-750. (DG-58 ES9018S corresponds to the DA of the DP-720).

As one can see, there are much more changes built into the DG-68 than just the DA (critisized by some).
A room correction presumably working at 352.8 kHz (DXD). Respect.
The package as a whole makes the difference !

Using a DP-950 transport (without DC-950 DA) plus DG-68 would make a lot of sense to me.
