Not familiar with Triangle Magellan speakers but the rest of that Luxman system is bound to leave an impression. More folks need to hear Luxman. :music:

French manufacturer Triangle presented at AXPONA 2018 its eight-driver flagship Magellan Grand Concert loudspeaker driven by Luxman electronics

French manufacturer Triangle presented its eight-driver, three-way Magellan Grand Concert ($70k) flagship with a pair of horn-loaded tweeters with waveguides and paper midranges—one of each rear-firing—and multiple inverted woofers made of a wood and polymer composite. Although the small room was not ideal for a speaker of this size and scale, these towering towers displayed compelling transparency, tonal naturalness, and openness. A listen to my vintage Decca LP of Gerhard’s “Libra” exhibited impressive imaging, spacious soundstaging, and a true sense of air between the instruments adding up to an ear-pleasing experience I was ready to relax into. What struck me most was how freed-up the system sounded, especially given the number of drivers in play. On a practical note, these tall towers come in three sections to ease installation. A pleasant sonic surprise, and a Best of Show contender.

audio bill,

I currently have the Jeff Rowland 625 S2 amp with the JR Corus preamp. I was told that the Luxman C-900u is a serious step-up from the Corus. Have you ever compared the two?

Rick - I'm still enthralled with the Luxman C-900u but have never had the opportunity to compare it directly with the Rowland Corus. Wish I could give you better input as to how they compare.

Thanks. Are you using a JR 625 S2 with the C-900u?

I initially paired my C-900u with the 625 (never had the S2 version) which was a great combination but recently moved to the matching Luxman M-900u. :D

Please describe the sonic differences between the C-900u/625 and C-900u/M-900u.

The Luxman C-900u paired with the Rowland 625 produced a sound that was spacious and effortlessly dynamic with a nice sense of decay, and honestly hard to find fault with until I heard the M-900u. I ran the C-900u paired with the 625 for several years since I was so pleased with their performance.

Now that I have the C-900u/M-900u combo I can attest to some definite synergies when using these matching Luxman components. The resulting presentation gained an improved level of harmonic density and a more natural recreation of space with a better sense of the recording venue. Instrumental textures are reproduced in a most natural and captivating way which seems to be a consistent trait of the top gear from Luxman.

It's hard for me to effectively put some of the characteristics of the Luxman electronics into words since it's more about how I'm able to connect to the music emotionally, and with my best recordings suspend disbelief feeling more as if I'm at an actual event rather than listening to a stereo system.

To be completely fair though I must mention again that I didn't ever have the JR 625 S2 in my system and it's supposed to be a significant step forward from the previous version I had. So my relative comparisons between the 625 and the M-900u have to be considered with that qualification in mind. Additionally I'd suspect that your current setup would likely benefit from some similar synergies with the Rowland preamp and power amp combination.

Hope this helps!
