Accuphase AC-6 phono cartridge
 

On Tokyo International Audio Show 2017 Accuphase announced their new MC phono cartridge AC-6.

Its predecessor AC-5 had been marked as discontinued for some time.
Rumours go, that AC-5 had been developed by Mr. Nakatsuka from ZYX.
The price was 241'000 Yen.

The new AC-6 seems to have more in common with designs by Mr. Miura and Mr. Matsudaira from Air Tight, especially their PC-1.
Scheduled for December 2017, the price will be 370'000 Yen.
Interestingly enough, for the very first time Accuphase also gives a price for needle replacement (270'000 Yen).
(Needle replacement on MC cartridges requires a complete rebuild, except for the outer housing.)

Looking forward to reading / hearing more about AC-6.

I think that 399'600 Yen ( $3540.46USD ) is more than reasonable and even though there will be a mark-up (perhaps 50%) that would make it competitive with other higher-end cartridges from the likes of Lyra,Ortofon,Shelter,Air Tight,Clearaudio and others.

I still have my AC-2 and AC-3's. I never heard the AC-5.
