According to the chart I was sent the 5u4g is the one to use. Earlier in the thread someone mentioned it might be a good idea to use a 5y3. Not sure why the reasoning behind that was though.

Lots of talk about 6v6 and 6f6, has anyone tried 6k6? Are they worth trying? It isn't clear to me how different any of these would be from each other.

With 6v6g and 6f6 the go to rectifier is the 5y3. With rectifiers with less voltage drop you may have some red plating so beware.

I have. They sounded great until I cooked some resistors in my PSE. Dennis said I could change out something if I wanted to pursue the 6k6 but it would not run in my PSE with solid state rectification. I repaired to stock configuration and put the 6k6s in a drawer.

Interesting. Wonder if it’s a different situation with the fire bottle KT88. Don’t think I’ll risk it, I’ve got plenty of other tubes to mess with.

Does anyone know if you can you run a 6SN7 in the 6SL7 slot on the inspire 45 ?

Thanks

Have at it. The 6BX7 is worth a try as well.

I have gone back to using a National Union 7n7 in the input position of my KT88 Firebottle. And I'm now running a pair of 6ar6 for the output tubes. I think this is my favorite combo so far. It has the warmth of the Firenti 807 tubes but seem to have better bass control. It's a thicker sound and I'm digging it.

Think this'll be end of my tube rolling for a while with the amp. My new preamp will be coming next week and I'll be rotating a variety of tubes through that lol. I have some adapters coming so I can use my 6c5 tubes but I think I'll wait to try this once I get a feel for how the preamp affects everything. The new preamp from Dennis looks amazing and I might have ordered it but I had out in an order for a Supratek preamp months and months ago. I'll still keep tabs on this thread, always looking for more info.
