buying used interconnects

How long do interconnects last ? Do they degrade with age ? Should I be concerned about buying a high end used XLR interconnect if it is more than 5 years old ? Assume that the cable was well cared for.

If properly cared for, that is, stored properly with no kinks or connector damage, they should last decades.

I've got pairs from the 80's that play fine once the connectors were cleaned up. The only thing that can go wrong is the connectors coming un-soldered if abused. XLR's are more robust connectors to start with.

Deoxit works great on the contact surfaces.

You may also want to run any purchasing ideas by Ivan, he has given me incredible deals on cables that rival many much more expensive ones I have. I asked him similar questions.
