I thought I would post a picture of my new Magnepan 1.7 speakers flanked by the McIntosh MC402 and C2300. Imagine with me two JL subwoofers, one on either side. Now we’re talkin some serious music. As you may notice the speakers were just moved in place for the picture and do not have the proper toe in and sound reinforcement etc. I only have about six hours on the speakers so they need a lot more break in time. Currently the speakers are in the basement away from curious cat claws. I need to get some Plexiglas shields made to protect them when I am not present. For the real story, see Steve Guttenberg’s ToneAudio review in issue 30 and Jonathan Valin’s full review in the latest “absolute sound September issue”. As for my thoughts, it is a very nice improvement over my Spica TC 50’s. What I noticed right off was the height, depth and width of the sound stage. I was listening to the CD, Unforgivable Blackness. The pluck and slap of the upright bass strings sounded very impressive.

I had a listen to them with the ARC Integrated. They really are one of the great bargains in audio. Happy Listening.

Mike.......Congratulations. I read the TAS review yesterday, and there is no doubt that Jonathan Valin was thoroughly impressed with their performance. At their price, they are a absolute hi-fi bargain. At least one JL Fathom sub would fill out that missing bottom octave and provide a true full range experience. I hope your new Maggies give your many years of enjoyment.

Keep an eye on that cat. It would become a 50 yard field goal if it clawed my speakers. :D

+1 to Dan's comment. :D

The system looks very nice - clean and well balanced. When you get the subs you will be in true bliss.

I have 2 jlf112 subs with my maggies in the home theater and it was quite a noticeable improvement. Enjoy but a sub is a must with magnepans.

Thank you for the comments guys. David, when I do take the JL plunge, I was wondering if two JLF110's would be faster and blend better but you seem to be very pleased with the JLF112's. Right now I'm saving for a new DAC/CDP and after that a MAC tuner. The end isn't in sight yet....

As for our two cats, I'll offer free shipping and one bag of cat litter. What a deal. My kids and wife would never forgive me. It's three against one. But I'm with Dan, they scratch my speakers and I just might have two cats come up missing. :D

Ah, yes. My claws need a bit of a touch up. Where are those Maggies. :D

Well it looks like you might be looking at a MCD500 given your Mac stack. I have never heard a JLF110 but I am sure it would sound good depending on the room size. What I can say is the JLF112 and 113 both are very fast subs. I would rather have 2 F112's then 1 F113. Since I added the second sub on either side of my center channel speaker and between my L/R front speakers I have a much more even bass that feels just right.
