True Detective #3
I have been very impressed with the third installment of True Detective on HBO. The first two iterations were okay and had their moments but the latest is more interesting to me. With only two of the eight episodes left to go I am still not sure what surprises await. The way the story unfolds it jumps between three timeframes in each episode. The original crime takes place around 1979-80. The case is reopened again ten years later. The story then jumps another 25 years to 2015. Both Mahershala Ali and Stephen Dorff pull this off nicely.
I would be surprised if Ali is not nominated for both an Emmy and Golden Globe for his role. He continues to add to his list of strong performances in House of Cards, Moonlight and Greenbook. |
It’s just so damn slow! I find the bouncing back and forward in time very distracting and annoying.
|
The bouncing between the years is what has kept it interesting for me. It helps with the character development and allows us to see how the relationships moved over the years.
|
True that. But it is still sloooooow. I have almost lost the will to care who committed the crimes.

True Detective #3
I continue to watch and agree Mr Ali has played an impressive array of ages for his character. It could just be me, I feel totally out of control on the conclusion. It could go a wide variety of directions. I have no clue. (But I suspect Ali’s character’s girlfriend)

Harris James kills Tom Purcell. Hays and West kill Harris James.

I liked the first season. Started but did not finish the second season (Did not care for it). Will check out season 3!
Thanks! |
I think it might be better than season 1. Stephen Dorff is stealing the show.
