There's no vintage equivalent to the KT170 unfortunately. If you have an expensive amp from the likes of Audio Research built around that tube I'd be a little nervous.

Nobody on this forum has to worry about that though! There's still plenty of vintage stuff floating around for Dennis's designs.

Hopefully this is temporary insanity.

A quad of KT170s are now over $2000.

Are they including a bottle of 15yr Pappy Van Winkle?

I was part of a nice get together with Dennis and team yesterday. We had a great time! We listened to a couple of amps. Also, did some tube rolling….

New Inspire kt88 SEP Firebottle “integrated” amp owner here, after luckily buying one from its orig owner (June 2021 build). Having the “volume” control added by Dennis for the orig owner is a nice feature. Rolling power tubes now, and researching other peoples experiences. I had two different Cary Sli-50’s (30Wpc and 50Wpc) then sold once children arrived. Now, the kiddos are off to college…and time again for tubes!

Learning a lot paging through this one thread—almost 700 replies! I’d post a pic, but I see the forum still needs a photo host service—thought that went by the wayside long ago. I’ll get this thing posted somehow. Good to see tube hi-Fi is alive and well !
