Dealer opening and inspecting order before delivering to you? normal?
Ok.. simply question, when you order a product from your dealer (in my case we're talking McIntosh)... is it normal for your dealer to insist that they open the box and inspect it to be working before delivery to you?
Or do you just come in, pick up the box and set it up and test it at home? I know some of you might have the dealer come out and install your stuff, so not talking to you all, as the answer there is obvious. |
My dealer(s) have never asked to check gear I have purchased prior to installation. The only reason I could see one asking to do this is if they have run into "return"issues with a number of clients.

Same here, never had a dealer open a box unless there’s been a problem with returns or other issues.
I like to open the box with the dealer if possible to make sure there is no obvious damage before bringing it home.
Never had a dealer open up any Mcintosh or other components. I think opening up the boxes is part of the fun :D
The only time a new component is opened by me, is if there is evidence of transit damage. Opening it is required to notify the manufacturer within 2 days of receipt.
I have never had a dealer open a box. He should not, unless asking you first. I would consider an open box to be the dealer trying to resell a “open box” or used component as new. It should not be sold for full price.
Over in Australia, distributors routinely open up boxes to place local power cords since many of our components get shipped with US or European or British power cords. They usually do include a sticker that says opened by the distributor for inspection.

That’s like offering your bride to be opened by someone else... :smoking:
