Should I keep my DVD-5910?
I've been thinking if I should sell my Denon DVD-5910. When I bought it I wanted it to be the last DVD player I will buy. It has everything you would want in a DVD player, but now that I've started toying with a Mac Mini as a Movie server, the Denon have not gotten much play. If I sell it, I will lose more than half of what I paid. The Mac Mini isn't nearly as good as the Denon, but it is more convenient. What should I do?

DJ.....I would keep it and use it as a backup if your Mac Mini should ever go down.
My $.02 :music: |

The bad part about this Denon is that it doesn't worth much on the used market. |

I've been the same with on the music side with my Mac Mini. My CDs mostly stay in storage, with the SACDs and LPs getting play for most critical listening. If you're going to sell it in the foreseeable future, sooner is probably better than later because the price probably will move in only one direction.

Mike, it is still a nice piece of gear.
Great video player for sure. You really can't see/hear a difference between the less-lossy DVD vs the ripped version? |

Still have the 5910?... even know it is 5 years since you asked the question. I still use mine for standard dvd concerts. The only issue is that the older HDMI does not play nice with the newer technology.

I still use mine all the time. Mainly SACD and DVD-A. However, with the Blu-Ray audio and just for general clutter clean up I am thinking about the Oppo 105 and be done with multiple decks.....The 5910 has been awesome since I bought it new years ago.

sold mine for dirt cheap.

Got my 2910 as well and it's still in the rack. I use it more as a CD player now than a DVD player on those rare times I play a CD. Not sure why I still have it but I can't seem to let it go! LOL

Trying to decide if the 2910 is worth fixing.....doesn't sync anymore but used mainly for CD's via MyDac....not a bad unit, but growing hair that's for sure.
Thanks |
Saw the 5910 at a local hi fi store for $100.00 in good shape. How fast technology marches on.

I sold mine a couple of years ago for probably $600-$700 on ebay and still thought it sounded good in comparison with my oppo bdp-95. Not better, but I'd say as good, quite frankly - just a different sound due to different DAC chips.
For $100, I wonder how it compares with today's players under $1000. |
I still have a 5910 and use it as a CD player in the shop/garage system. It sounds good!

I still have mine as well. It does duty as a CD transport in my shop/garage system.

I own both a Denon 5910 and a 3910. I have a lot of DVD movies. I thought BluRay would be a short lived affair on the way to better (like 4K) Sadly 4K has not really taken off, instead streaming seems to be the new ticket.
Anyway I have hundreds of DVDs. And the Denons are my choice for playback. I think DVD will make a comeback, like LPs did. Just my fantasy really. I already own all the movies I would want to watch, on DVD. My TV has only one HDMI (early adapter fault) so I use the HDMI with the 5910, and component IC for the 3910. |
I have a modified 3910 and it it wonderful
