Those who own these, how far 3.7/20.7 from front wall.

May go audition the 3.7i's this weekend in a store. However, pulling the speakers out in my room 6ft will be an issue. Wife wouldn't dig that.

Room size is 36 x 36 x 12-16 (vaulted ceiling)

Most commonly I've seen working well is 3 to 5 feet so you should be fine. That distance will affect the spatial aspect of the soundstage as well as bass extension since it's a dipole and there will be some bass cancellation dependent upon the distance. Experimentation is the key, take your time and you should get superb performance from them.

In my opinion, you want them at least 5' from the front wall. My 3.7i's are 9' & 7' from the front wall.

So let me piggy back on this. If you were out 6' with a 20.7 - what would happen to the sound say at 11' in a 30' long room? I figure you might get a more open sound with more depth - but what happens to the bass as you pull them out that far?

I just auditioned them in a store. Thy had them about 4 ft from the front wall. I like the sound of them better than PSB T3 or Vandersteen Treo in same price range.

You do lose mid-bass when you pull them further out. I'm guessing that's what the DWM helps with.

In (almost) any in-phase dipole speakers, the distance from the front wall is a trade-off between soundstage, particularly soundstage depth, and bass performance. Similar trade-off - soundstage vs. frequency response, applies between the amount of toe-in in these speakers. Based on my experience with both Magnepans and Martin Logans, the amount of trade-off can be positively managed by strategic use of room treatment, particularly in room corners behind the speakers on the front walls. I've heard 1.7s in an equilateral triangle listening/seating arrangement placed 10' apart and 3.5' from a treated front wall - GIK diffuser panels behind the speakers, and they sounded incredible with deep tight bass and unbelievably wide and deep soundstage. I'm guessing being fed by a pair of McIntosh MC601 monoblocks had something to do with the sound quality, awesome even at very low listening levels.

Maggie is now saying about 10 ms on their web page
