Stamps are a pain staking thing to collect. A ton of stuff worth essentially nothing and in the middle of that there are valuable items. Very "boom or bust".

Wow......your view of the hobby could not be more different then mine...........Stamps are very easy to collect........"A ton of stuff worth essentially nothing"?....................I guess that depends on how you look at any hobby.................Personally I find Stamps are an amazing "Window of History" into the country your collecting.
My love of history, traveling and geography and my admiration of the USA is fully due to the fact when I was 8 years old my uncle gave me a US Benjamin Franklin stamp and ignited my passion in history, geography and the zest to learn about other countries other then my own.

The Late Great President Roosevelt said:""Stamp Collecting dispels boredom, enlarges our vision, broadens our knowledge, makes us better citizens and in innumerable ways, enriches our lives"

Mostly in it from my pre-teens to late 20s. Dumped it all in a good will box in Lawton, OK. Now back in it collecting Czech Republic. Well enough that I have all the new issues up to a year or two ago. Housed in a Palo album except last few years in a custom made pages/Lighthouse binder. Sadly haven't looked at it again in 4 or 5 months. Have a few years to even make pages for and mount.

I have some Italian and German stamps from WW2 that my dad collected, given to him by my grandfather. I don't know if they are worth anything, but they mean a lot to me.

I'm a stamp collector from way back....I loved it as a kid and it never left me. I have my Dad'd collection since he passed, and every so often I get back to it with added new additions. I have stamps from all over the world but my primary interest is U.S. Stamps.

My main album is the Scott's Grand award album that belonged to my Dad. One day I'll pull the trigger on a Scott's National album for U.S. Stamps, which I consider to be the best album available.

You would enjoy the Placa Reial in Barcelona. Every Sunday (once a month?) the stamp & coin dealers & collectors, etc. gather to buy, sell, trade.

I collected US plate blocks as a kid. As a teen, I was less into it, but never completely stopped, buying the occasional plate block and stamps from my travels. About five years ago, got back into it, bought new Scott albums and am fairly close to having every PB from about 1922-2000. Prices sure plummeted from the early 80s - I remember my dad got me a C46 plate block for $50 in 1978, and that be found for less than $10 today. Of course, the rarer items still are very expensive. It's a great hobby, as Paul mentioned, at the intersection of history, travel and geography, and kindled my interest in those areas in ways that still resonate.
