Hi Bill i've got a buddy who has the SE's. They replaced a pair of Infinity Renaissance 90's. He said they require some effort with placement, but are capable of fast, detailed sound. He is driving them with a Modwright KWA-150SE & Ayon tube preamp which he said is a good combination. He's on a another forum. Shoot me a pm if you'd like his contact details :)

Bill, I can't believe I missed this thread! I'm quite taken in by Legacy Audio's speakers.

They are fantastic, great value for money, and top notch performers, especially starting with the Signatures.

I don't think there's a speaker in the market that sells at this price, that goes right down to 20-22Hz. My Signature 3s has 3x 10" woofers, front, down, rear. This signature se has two front firing ones, and will definitely give you the awesome
Impact of bass you need. Drive them hard with your McIntosh, they will flourish.

Sound wise, they are very detailed, not bright. The mid range in the signature se is deep, crisp, comparing the sig3 and se, the se is even more natural. The bass is authoritative, and can really move your room- and then wait til you try the focus se, 12" woofers, and MTM configuration.

Staging wise, they are excellent. Listening to KT Tunstall & Vonda Shepard, with less than perfect recording, the staging is usually flat and on many many systems I've put them on, they are definitely not worth the audio enthusiast's attention, I've all but written them off until I put them in my bedroom system with the signature3s. The vocals became so intimate, standing holographically in the middle, and the band had a very nice space to them, forming a very nice "U" shape behind the singer. We obviously know KT is a guitarist and her guitar was right with her, and Vonda is a pianist, and for those instruments, they were placed perfectly. The drums/ percussion, bass guitar, accompanying vocals were all around the lead.

Hotel California from hell freezes over, presented with excellent tones of nylon guitar, and separation of vocals during the chorus, were distinct, and you could hear effortlessly where they were seated, on the lefts and rights of Don Henly.

On Kitaro's Matsuri, the bass was weighty, and deep, texture of the drum skin can be distinctively heard. The bass is not as tight as the xr200, but it is very strong, and defined.

Crank up the volume, and you won't find distortion coming from these speakers. McIntosh and Legacy play very well with each other.

In my bedroom set, I use an apple MacBook where all my songs are stored, through a sigma delta ad1155 DAC, into an mx118, and to mc300. Other sources are denon vinyl, marantz ud7006, Apple TV, on RCA. There's a marantz sr7005 from Japan for home theatre, and they power my def tech & b&w surrounds. I also have a def tech 15", and I'm looking for another 15" to sit symmetrically.

This is one of the best stereo sounds I've heard for the price invested in this system, and try compete very well with my other full mcintosh systems at double- four times the price!

I've got a Silverscreen center channel in production, should be shipping out next week.

Side note, the mx118 does prologic 5.1 from 2-channel, but I will set them to 3.0, with the silverscreens, with tweeter placed in-line with the signatures, and the silverscreens go down to 30 odd Hz, which is again kick butt on price/ performance ratio. With this configuration, the spouse and I will enjoy a stable front staging wherever we sit and stand in the room.

Legacy also has a very responsive service team, and communication, is a breeze with them. I've changed my ribbon tweeter once with them, even though its about 15 years old. Now the air motion transducers are even better. Expect superior performance from the Signature SEs.

I've got a pair of legacy focus SEs and couldn't speak more highly of them especially au their price point. Agree with earlier comment they are matched well with some hefty Mcintosh gear I was running them with a 602 for a while and I miss the combo!

Also to add they are extremely sensitive for a large speaker I also had a 40w jadis which they drove with no problems 92-93db if I can remember correctly.

Very nice setup. I could see myself auditioning a pair of Legacy Foci should my next house not have adjacent corners for my Klipschorns.
