Pass Labs XP-15 on the way

After much consideration, research, and positive feedback I ordered a new Pass Labs XP-15 phono preamplifier. I believe this will be a perfect fit for my studio sound system, and will take my vinyl playback rig to the next level. I am confident the XP-15 will deliver exemplary low noise performance, and will provide me with years of worry free service. I like the user control functions available through the switches on the rear panel. They provide a wide range of loading, capacitance, and gain possibilities. I plan to use the XLR outputs between the XP-15 and my C2300 preamplifier, so the balanced outputs are a nice feature as well. There is no power switch on the XP-15, so it will remain powered at all times. I was instructed it will take approximately 75 to 100 hours for break in. I am looking forward to the arrival of my new Pass Labs XP-15 phono preamplifier. It should arrive in about a week.

Robert........I know what you mean. I was enjoying the search and research, too. I actually looked at, and read about a number of other phono preamps, although they did not merit attention or comment.

Recently I brought home a hand built dual mono phono preamp with independent external power supply for an audition, and to write a review for the engineer who created it. I was quite impressed with this solid state phono stage preamp, especially since it was built on electronic peg boards in two utility project boxes, and very much "in the rough" so to speak. This person is quite famous in his own right, and is personal friends with Nelson Pass, who has reviewed this engineer's amplifier designs in Electronic Magazine and Audio Magazine. This phono preamp is now being built on custom printed circuit boards using premium close tolerance parts, and should come to market in the near future. I am not at liberty to talk about it more than what I have said here, but it was a surprisingly clean phono preamp for a first off prototype.

Awesome!!!

It's gorgeous!

Dan, I think you made a great choice. I think very, very highly of Nelson Pass and his designs. IMHO, the man is, quite simply, a genius. I've had my eye on an XP15 for about a month now; I've been looking for a second phono stage as I am about to have another TT in da house...

An XP15 is outside of my discretionary spending limits right now, but I've also been looking at the Pass X-Ono.

Congratulations...I think you made a very fine choice.

Thanks gentlemen. I am excited to get the XP-15 into the studio system. From all indications this is going to be a stellar performing phono stage preamp. It won't take me long to get it fine tuned to the Ortofon Cadenza Black. I feel quite certain the Pass Labs XP-15 will surpass the C2300's MC phono stage performance. Looking forward to its arrival. I forgot to mention, I have ten days to return it for full refund if I am not pleased. That takes all the anxiety out of the purchase.
