Hopefully the hiss is something easy to live with now that Dennis has reassured you about it. IIRC, the hiss was not audible at listening distance.

What does he mean by, "the DACT stepped attenuator the stereo center fill remains stable at all volume settings" ?

That British Racing Green is sharp! It would be cool to have an array of car colors - we have Ferrari red, Triumph green, Harley black, French blue - how about Mercedes/Porsche silver, Lamborghini yellow, and American/Shelby white with blue stripes. And, of course, Delorean brushed stainless!

I had Dennis instal the same volume pot he has been putting in the Dragon HA-1 headphone amplifier for moon-audio. It was a bit of extra money but I figured it would be worthwhile.
I believe Dennis is a bit of a car nut too.

Have about 100 hours on my Inspire 6L6 Fire Bottle. Have done some tube swapping with the driver and rectifier. Currently running a NOS Admiral (Sylvania) as the driver, the Tung-Sol large bottle 6L6 power tubes, and a Sophia Electric meshplate 274B as a rectifier.

Am going to try a few other power tubes next (KT77, KT88, KT66 and perhaps the 6V6)

I love the Sophia 274B meshplates. I've ended up running one in my LP-2 and NOS RCA 5Y3GT in the amp. I had two 274B's, but one did some sparkling and is now defunct. Upsetting as I purchased with the 30 day warranty and would have had it replaced if I had sprung for the one year! :sigh: So far, the only tube that has ever gone bad on me.

I assume your KT77's are new production? The original GEC/Genelex/Gold Lion's go for an obscene amount. I just saw a quad go for $1691 on ebay!!

Definitely try the 6V6. They have become my favorites.

Any particular brand of 6V6's?

Yep, Visseaux. Popes were my favorite prior to them.

Yes new production Gold Lions. Where did you source the Visseaux 6V6?

Simonatsea 02-23-2015 09:09 AM

6v6's I have been really impressed with are WWII RCA JAN CRC VT107A and the Pope 6V6GT from upscale. I have also really enjoyed the Preferred series KT-88 (penta) from TheTubeStore , with a TJ full music 6SL7 (Sophia) My favourite rectifier so far has been a "Rogers" labelled 5Y3 made in holland. I have a USAF 596 tube sitting at home that I am awaiting an adapter for, looking forward to giving it a go though....

I got them from Gregg Levy of HITEST Guitars, but he's out. I think Upscale is out. I don't know where you can get them now.
