Mmmm... my Pope 6V6GT's are "out for delivery" today, so I'm looking forward to checking them out.

I also bought a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon turntable. With a limited selection of LP's, I don't have a lot to listen to. It's interesting though to hear the little pops and crackles again (even on a brand new Clash 'London Calling' 180g pressing).

I emailed Dennis about making a recommendation for me on one his Inspire Firebottle amps, and he recommended a KT77 Firebottle (that also takes EL34s). Anyone here got one of those?

Thanks
Glenn

Aerocool, the Debut carbon is a nice table for the money, listening to mine as I type. Ortofon blue, acrylic platter and speed box 2. To be honest through I feel like I am listening to all my components for the first time with my inspire 6v6 in place. What a night and day difference from my 1963 Mcintosh ma230!
Running a full music 6sl7, penta kt88's and the sovtek rectifier..... My winged c 5u4 was DOA from the tube store :( . My EML mesh plate 5U4 should be arriving any day now :)
The power jump from the 6v6 to the kt88's is very noticeable! This amp is going to be a lot of fun. So many tube options. I do notice a considerable heat increase using the el34's and kt88's compared to the 6v6 tubes however....

Simon - has your MA230 been refurbished (new caps, resistors, etc.)?

Just to comment on the subject of heat. I was a little worried that my speakers were going to be difficult for this amp so I am measuring the power supply heat output.

In general using the 5ar4 both the 6l6 and 6bg6ga get the temp to ~140 degrees F. The KT66 runs anywhere from 5 to 10 degrees hotter regardless of if I use a 5ar4 or a 5u4. I am generally preferring the 6bg6ga (jan Philips 80's vintage) tube over all others but the winged c 6l6 is very nice also. The shuggie KT66 that came with the amp to me are unexciting.

Glenn, I just received my 6v6 and it came with KT77s in it. I think Dennis had demo'd the amp with those tubes and forgot to switch them. All I've got to say is go for it.

I have a set of the Pope 6v6s that he recommended somewhere, but I don't have any desire to switch them after hearing the 77s.

Congratulations on the new amp!

I for one would love to hear your impressions comparing the Popes with KT77s if you're up for it.

Bill - Your 6v6 must be the copper one - correct? Am assuming so as Dennis sent me some pics.

So am curious as the number of differnt tubes that could be used, your 6v6 will run 6V6's, 6L6's, KT66's, 5881's, EL34's , and KT77's? Anything else?

Thanks
Glenn

6bg6ga with adapters and probably the kt88 (if it is similar to mine)
