MX135 and issues after momentary power interruption

Nothing is perfect forever without some occasional TLC, not even McIntosh gear.

My beloved MX135, SN V1666 is acting up after a momentary interruption of power to the house. A quick OFF then ON of our power grid precipitated the issue. It was too fast for the AVS2000 and HTS5100 to catch it and stay shut down, as it all happened within 1 second or so.

Afterward, I noticed immediately that there was no video output, even in SETUP mode on any video out. All of the Surround Modes, Cinema, Stereo and Music are DOA. They illuminate and change on the display, but do not work. The 7:1 External Position audio inputs are the only ones that work. No video is being passed from any video source.

All Trim controls work, as do the Tone controls, Loudness, Display, ETC. Single End and XLR 7.1 outputs work when fed signals from the 7.1 External inputs. Input A, Input B, Trim, and Volume controls, as well as the push buttons along the bottom row seem to make changes on the display they should.

The other issue being the Rotary Encoders are getting a little flakey, but that was going on before everything else, using the remote to make changes isn't an issue. I'm guessing the Rotary Encoders need cleaning or replacement.

My understanding is that this is a Firmware corruption issue. Doing a Hard Reset with the Red power button and/or leaving the unit unplugged to drain the caps doesn't solve any of the issues either. I cannot confirm which Firmware version is currently installed, as I cannot access video to view Setup.

My question in this is will a reload of the firmware or update to the latest and greatest solve the issues (other than the Rotary Encoders)? I've done considerable research which indicates this is not an isolated issue with the MX135/119 and other Mc preamps and processors experiencing momentary sudden ON-OFF power interruptions.

I would like to know where to acquire the proper RS232 cable, Firmware, with some basic instruction to get this thing back on it's feet again. I don't have a RS232 port on my Laptop (which is running Windows 8), I do have access to a newer Laptop running Windows 10, but again no RS232 port. To use either laptop I'd still need the USB to RS232 cable. Where can I acquire the correct one, and which is recommended? Can I get the latest Firmware directly from Mcintosh?

Sorry about all the questions and the background information. I'm trying to include all the available info. Thanks!

Contact McIntosh directly from their website https://www.mcintoshlabs.com/brand/contactus

Honestly, for a few grand I would recommend a used MX150/MX151 instead.

I like the flexibility of the MX135, the tape loops and sheer number of assignable inputs. All HDMI video is done externally, leaves plenty of Component video it's and out's for legacy devices. With my C2500, I don't need anything more or newer,..the 7.1 surround is more than enough for me! Just call me contented...!
