Vivid Introduces New Kiya Speakers Line

The press release discusses affordability, and these appear to be based on Giyas without the top spiral.

Quote:

Vivid Audio KIYA 45 is the latest creation from the Imagineering of Laurence Dickie, the father of the Nautilus loudspeaker and the current Vivid Audio product range. The midpoint loudspeaker from the new range of speakers span a price range of approximately 18,000 Euros down to an entry-level model that will be lower than the current entry point. KIYA is Zulu language for 'home'. These speakers bring the same acoustic properties that are found with the high-end GIYA speakers but in a more home friendly, conservative form. The large curled outboard exponential tapered horn found on the Giya speakers and first seen on the Nautilus loudspeaker, are wrapped inside the KIYA range using a new technique for Vivid, the re-entrant absorber horn. This space-saving system gives the same benefits to the bass response found on the more expensive GIYA range, which is clean and extended.

This is the first 3-way speaker from Vivid, and the 50mm mid range dome has been dispensed with in favor of the new Mid/bass driver developed in-house. It is carbon stiffened aluminum piston with extended flat frequency response to cover the entire midrange. The bass comes from twin 125mm bass drivers in the Vivid tradition of reaction canceling format.

…Power handling is 300 watts bass excursion limited.
18,000 Euros is approximately $21,500 US, so I suspect these will replace the Oval line.

Personally I have to say that I'm not an instant fan of the aesthetic design of these, because they look to me like Giyas with the spiral cut off (of course they're more than that.)

Hah! +1 - but nevertheless a very clean looking design.

I really like the aesthetics of the Giyas but these look like alien pods ready to hatch.

Given the price points it looks like the Kiya will replace the Oval line, not the Giyas.

bart 05-12-2018 02:22 AM

I read it will be a line between the Oval Line and Giya Line.
Different models.

Heard these yesterday at Munich and they sounded very good. I think one will either like or dislike the looks.

Personally, I prefer the look of the Giyas.....

I definitely do, I really need to listen to a pair of Giyas. They're on my shor list of next speaker upgrade....won't fit the decor though!

Happy to note that at RMAF Ayre was proudly demoing their new 8 series products with the Kiyas!

I didn't take photos but as the magazines start to post them, keep an eye out for the Ayre room.

Ayre has had an affinity for Vivids for about a decade now, having demoed their gear in the past with both oval series B-1s as well as some unproduced Vivid prototypes!

One of the better sounds, RMAF and Munich.

Bill - Check my RMAF thread.....I took several pictures of the Vivid/Ayre room. Like Kal said it was one of the better sounds at the show. I wish I had spent some more time there.
