Lumin now fully decodes MQA

Lumin just released firmware version 9.01 for four of their units including the S1 and the A1 and the D1.

I guess I'll now have to see what all the hub-bub's about.

Robc33 08-11-2017 07:46 AM

Just bought an S1! Look forward to it's arrival.

BlueSky 08-11-2017 08:16 AM

I love my S1! You're going to be amazed!

Robc33 08-11-2017 12:43 PM

I hope so! This will be my first adventure into a decent digital front end. I bought it second hand, and read it can be tricky to get configured. Would you mind if I contacted you, if i have any trouble with set up?

BlueSky 08-11-2017 12:57 PM

I don't mind so feel free. I have a QNAP NAS and use JRiver rather than Minimserver here.

I found the Lumin S1 to be very simple to use. However, to avoid network issues, I use a direct attached USB drive.

Lumin S1 just arrived today. After the first hour with it, I must say that I am truly amazed! It is the greatest single leap in sound quality in my journey so far! I can't help but jump from track, to track to see how different they sound from what I am used to! Hook up was much easier than I had expected as well.

Congratulations! I have an S1 also. Might be the best audio purchase I ever made.

psyopwak 08-27-2017 12:15 AM

The S1 looks like a fine DAC.

FDPDK 08-27-2017 09:15 AM

Congratulations with your Lumin :)

I love my T1

Do you have your Lumin S1 hooked directly to your router?

http://www.luminmusic.com/quickstart.html

No simple network connection?

Yes I do. Just using Tidal right now. Don't have a NAS for it, or anything other than my I-tunes library on my mac-book. New to hi-rez digital audio. Open to any suggestions!

JBT 08-27-2017 09:27 PM

I don't own one. Thinking about buying a high end music server. Lumin and Aurender come to mind.

My router is in my home office about 75ft away from audio rack. So I think that eliminates Lumin! And I really like the features it offers and the great reviews I"ve been reading for the past year.

All you need is a dual band extender.

I know. Thanks!

Robc33 09-01-2017 07:06 AM

I've only had the S1 a short while. I was experiencing some glitches with the Lumin app, like my set list of favorite songs not showing up. I uninstalled the app, and re-installed, and so far, so good. My main concern is that since I first plugged it in, every time I turn the app on, it asks if I want to install a firmware upgrade from 9.00beta to 9.02? I have attempted to do this a dozen times, and it still asks every time the app starts up. When I check the menu, it names the current firmware as 9.00beta. It does look like it is decoding MQA as it displays it on the screen. Is anyone else having this issue??

Higgens 09-01-2017 07:21 AM

Rob - Have you tried power cycling the Lumin? That's what it took for me to install the latest firmware in my D1. Turn the Lumin off within the app, then turn off the power switch on the back of the unit. Hope this helps.

Gary, thank you very much! I had tried powering down the unit, but not within the app. Upgraded 1st try after that. Thank you!! Rob

Don't forget that there is a great thread on Computer Audiophile dot com on all things Lumin. The engineering staff from Lumin hang out there regularly and are very proactive in answering any user or technical questions you may have.

I'm afraid to ask, but what do you think?

I am surprised posters are being advised to go to a competitor of Ivan's website.

A forum is as good as the info it provides.
Why shouldn't we welcome good advice?
The best must not fear the rest... :D

Robc33 04-29-2019 05:05 PM

I don’t believe any disrespect was intended. The simple fact is that there is very little information on this forum about Lumin. The for-mentioned forum, has quite a bit more info available. I’m sure the info was passed along in the good spirit of this “friendly” forum.

BlueSky 06-10-2019 02:38 PM

The X1 is all that I could have hoped for and more. And, indeed, I meant no disrespect to anyone by mentioning another site but merely was trying to point out information that could be useful to anyone in search of audio nirvana.

Robc33 08-12-2019 06:49 PM

Lumin X1 is in the house. At first,I wasn't sure that I preferred it to the S1, but after 150 hrs, it is pulling ahead. It is hard, as I have only been able to get there on weekends to burn it in. I left it streaming when I left this morning, so looking forward to getting back up there.
Updates will follow, and one of them will be up for sale soon.

I have my own dac so is using Lumin for digital out better than using a Blusound node 2?

Way better. I was using the LUMIN D2 for that. But if you want the best connectivity, get the U1 or U1 Mini.

Or the Auralic Aries G1 or G2.
