New 85" Sony for me... comments?

I have the opportunity to buy a Sony XBR 85X-850D 85" 4K TV at a very good price from an authorized dealer. And I just happen to need an 85" TV for my family room.

For those of you who have or have seen this TV, your comments on the TV would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Robert

Rob,

I have the "little brother" to that set, an XBR70X850B 70" 4K unit.

I have been extremely happy with this TV, even with standard cable or any 1080P content received. The processor on these TV's really do a fine job.

The Sony XBR line is an edge lit LED backlight with frame dimming which, with some tweaking, creates some deep inky blacks.

Coupled with the very effective contrast settings, the Triluminous color enhancement brings everything into a natural hue and allows for some very fine tuning to suit your preferences.

Lastly, while some folks would decry the published refresh rate of 120Hz as last year's tech, the Sony motion enhancer is spot on. This TV has great motion capture with no pixelation, bleed through or distortion.

Outside of the technical drivel I just posted, I would add that the slightly matte screen finish does a good job of eliminating reflections that may be result from ambient or artificial light sources in or near the room.

If there are any downsides, I would offer that you should consider the following:

1. For some reason, updates eliminate your Netflix connection. You have to do a total system reset on the TV, then log back in to Netflix via the TV. It seems to happen once a year IIRC.

2. There is a significant menu to work through as you set up the TV to your liking. I'd strongly suggest you write down all the settings so when those updates hit, you'll have something to refer to when going through that setup yet again.

But bottom line, this is a great TV that does a great job delivering a clear and lifelike picture.

Good luck with your decision!
