Boulder 3010 preamp coming
|
WOW! Are you getting a 3000 series amp to go with it?
|
Well holy crap.... that's going to be a beast!!!

I love my boulder 1050 amplifiers, would not hesitate to own the 3050s if I could. Not actually sure about the 3010 preamp though -- I am very partial to tubes in my preamp gain stage. VAC statement preamp paired with boulder 3050 amps might be my dream system. |
I look forward to the reviews... meanwhile, I'll slum it with my Boulder 2060.

You're really going to suffer with what was their last top of the line! :D :D :D :laughin: :lmao: :roflmao: |
|
Hmmmmmm.....not sure about the aesthetics of that, but I'm sure it'll be a state of the art piece. Kind of looks like something out of Wargames.

Yeah, I am not a big fan either. It sure has lots of dials for adjustments
|
I am usually a big fan of Boulder's industrial design. Not sure about this one.
|
Looks like something you would find in a machine shop. :dunno:

Wonder what 6 figure price tag that will have? Will that be the most expensive preamp ever??
|
Not sure what the actual price will be but my rough guess is 115-120k.

Is the resolution as good as Epson or Canon? Oh Sh!t, this isn't a laser printer?
|
Looks like a piece of hospital equipment.
|
I try to avoid negative comments but what were they thinking?

All jokes aside, I bet it sounds glorious. I love Nagra, but I'm not crazy about the looks, its the sound I like. I've never seen a pre that could only fit on an amp stand.:D
|
according to this link, it will list at $110,000 USD
I am sure it is extremely well built, and likely sounds amazing judging by what Stereophile had to say about the 2110 preamp: Boulder's 2110 is the best-measuring preamplifier I have encountered. Not only are its distortion and noise very low, the 2110 doesn't change its operating parameters with output voltage, load impedance, or the setting of the volume control, and hardly at all with frequency. I am not surprised that Michael Fremer was impressed by what the 2110 did in his system. Even if I had that kind of cash to spend on a single component, I don't think I could bring myself to buy it. I just can't get past the looks -- for that kind of cash, it ought to look the part too. |

I suspect it looks better in person. By the picture only though, it's one I hope to admire (and hear) in someone else's home.

I spent a day at Boulder listening to the 3010 compared to the 2110. Thanks to Rich Maez and Boulder for letting me do that.
The 2110 is everything Mike Fremer wrote in his review in Stereophile. So the 3010 should not have been much better -- how much more can there be, right? On some recordings, the two were pretty close. But on others, the difference in resolution and impact was startling. The more dynamic and complex the music the bigger the difference is my takeaway. I listened to "Joey and Drums of Doom" from the Thank You For Smoking soundtrack, Beethoven 7th and 9th Symphonies, Zaide from the Amadeus soundtrack and many others. I also saw the new 1110 faceplate -- the pictures on the internet just don't do it justice. It is a beautiful piece. The pictures make it look like there are wavy lines on it -- there are no lines. It is a relief -- several layers like a topographic 3D map. The same on the 1160. I am going to buy a Boulder pre, just don't which one yet. The 3010 is too big for my rack (too wide) otherwise I would get it. I want to hear the 1110 before I opt for the 2110. So I will have to wait a little while. |
That is an audacious piece of equipment. Looks like something that would be on a submarine, or the set of Star Trek from the Motion Picture. I'm not trying to make fun of it. I'm sure it sounds glorious. Honestly, I think if you're charging that kind of money and can back it up with performance, making it look like a technical piece of kit seems appropriate.

I am jealous you can even afford to potentially purchase and we're lucky enough to demo the 3010, what a beast that must be! |
