McPre-amp headphone out vs. XLR out for headphones

Surfing the web on my lunch and found this. Seller has other brands with the same mod. Are there any benefits to using balanced XLR out of my C2200 over the 3.5 mini jack headphone out?

If the same wire was used to connect both the XLR and and mini jac or 1/4" plug, I do not see where there would be any advantage. May me easier to drive, I guess.

But more difficult to connect.

The C2200 has two XLR outputs with switch so it would not be a problem keeping it plugged in.

Mike,

Connecting them to the XLR would there be an impedance mismatch there?

Hum... good point. Then what's the reason behind making XLR cables?

The dual XLR cables are intended for headphone amps such as the Headroom Balanced Ultra Desktop Amp. You need to get in the ballpark with impedance matching and voltage capability, especially with high impedance cans. http://www.headphone.com/productPhot...icn=0000012550
This is pretty much the maximum performance you can slap on your head. The new Sennheiser HD800 would be interesting to audition with this configuration.
