MS300 Operating system question

Does anyone here know if it matters if the operating system the MS300 has on the board is somehow encoded on the hard drive? By this I mean if they are different, does it fail to start up? This seems to be the case but I can't verify my findings. I have a MS300 that was not updated when the servers were operational and I am trying to put a drive from another MS300 that had been updated. When I put it in, I get the flashing red light and it never starts up. Does anyone know for sure?

Thanks, David.

David - there are a few MS300 and MS 750 experts here. You’ll find them by doing a search on MS750 and MS 300.

There is a process to bring up a new drive using a ‘Golden CD’ that contains all the OS files.

There are specific key sequences that must be performed to eliminate the ‘phone home’ actions to servers that are no longer online.

There are power supply updates that need to be made to ensure continued reliability.

I do not know the details on any of this so can’t help you.

But if your existing hard drive is not damaged you may be able to get your unit to start up by using the remote key sequence that stops all the ‘phone home’ activity to inactive servers. This described in threads on this board.

As I recall, the hardware serial number is electronically embedded on the drive and needs to match or it won’t boot. So unfortunately you can’t simply swap drives between units.

If you want to swap drives or install a new drive, you’ll need a Golden Disc to start fresh.

Where can I get a copy of the "golden disk"?

Thanks, David
