Vinyl night

Last night was vinyl night in the studio. Since it is so easy and convenient to just sit in the sweet spot and cruise through my music server digital library on the iPad, I have to make a concerted effort to block out time for LP's or they never seem to get played.

Last night it was all vinyl. My Michell Gyro SE with the SME309 tonearm and Ortofon Cadenza Black moving coil cartridge was sounding so good. The moving coil phono stage in the McIntosh C1000C/P preamp brings the best out in the Cadenza Black. I played sides A and B in their entirety of four albums, Carla Bley - Heavy Heart, Donald Fagen - Nightfly, Stacey Kent - Dreamsville, and Michael Franks - Passion Fruit. I really should spin more vinyl. The vinyl night listening session was wonderful.

Dan... as soon as I get back to town; I'm going to have my own Vinyl night!

Nice lineup. When I get home tonight I think I'll put on my "The Nightly" Quiex II issue. Just bought it off of eBay last week. It's a pretty well-used copy, but the dynamics of the pressing are very sweet.

Cheers!

I've been on a seemingly endless quest to find digital playback which gives me the same level of engagement as my analog front end. Yes it's a bit more effort but the sound is so much more spacious and natural sounding from my perspective. Enjoy your analog sources!

I like those choices Dan! Hey I do that to from time to time :)

It is easy to seem to be lazy of sorts, so for me it seems like I have to make sure I make the effort

The K-01X and the Aurender N10 sound so analog and rich it is easy to forget just how good the vinyl LP playback is from my turntable rig. Last night while listening to LP's I had no desire to jump up and go to another track. I just dropped the stylus in the groove and let it play the entire side, got up, flipped the album and dropped the stylus in the groove once again. The physical involvement took me back to my old days when that was the only way we played music on a sound system. When I am listening to my digital front end with the iPad in my hands I have a tendency to jump all over the place tapping one CD or song after another. Playing LP's last night was a lesson in slowing down.

Dan,
Vinyl night sounds like a wonderful evening. I intend to have many vinyl nights as soon as my current downsize has been upsized. I've been wanting to move in that direction for months and decided now is the time to make it happen. Thanks for the reminder of just how enjoyable and relaxing it can be.

Every night seems to be a vinyl night these days. The poor neglected Ayre SACD player isn't getting as much love as it used to and it's no slouch, that's for sure. It's just really hard to get excited about spinning a CD.

Dan....I love Donald Fagan's the Nightfly on Vinyl, so very good. In fact I am going to play it now.

It looks like you had a great time. I am running in my cart, and have had vinyl eve's the last 3 weeks, just magic.

That night called for an intimate soiree companion, a bottle of Chianti something of the sort.
