Interesting audio change
 

I have a set of Bryston Mini-T speakers powered by an Anthem PVA-7 amp with a Pioneer SC-65 acting as a pre-amp.

I had used the SC-65 to tune my speakers to the room using Pioneers onboard software. I thought the speakers sounded great and were amazingly natural, good broad soundstage, and clarity was beautiful.

We were getting new carpet installed a couple of days ago, so I had to move my speakers up onto the hearth of the fireplace (about 2 1/2 to 3 feet up) directly behind where I had them sitting on the floor. While waiting on the flooring company I decided to listen to some music.

To my absolute amazement, the Mini-Ts sounded 100 times better. Richer, broader sound stage, clarity was probably 2 times better. I am shocked at the improved audio by this move.

Why would moving my speakers up and back provide such a vast improvement in sound quality??

The room is the last component in any system.

So the way the polar response of the speaker interacts with the acoustical properties of the room can vary drastically as a result of the nearby boundaries.

I was just amazed however that moving them UP 2 1/2 to 3 feet would cause such a dramatic improvement in sound, soundstage, and overall audible volume.

Wonder if the SC-65 "room correction" is seriously flawed for such a stark difference in sound with the move of the speakers. Almost makes me think that the room correction adjusted the speaker, as if the listener was sitting on the floor. Yet, with the the microphone was set in the exact location I sit for listening to music....

On a side note, I am really amazed now with the Mini-T's with this change...WOWZERS!! :music::music::music:

Hey Joe,
You’re seeing firsthand the power of placement and the fun of experimentation. Turn off all your room correction goodies and spend some time moving things around and listening for what sounds best. Small physical changes can make for big sonic improvements! Enjoy.

Thanks, Tom! I just played with balance and spatial adjustments, this weekend I'll do some physical adjustments... Looks like it'll be very enjoying and end result should be superb!!

As I have said many times I am not a fan of room correction except at very low frequencies (below 100Hz).
