Klaudio Tangential Tonearm

Wow, this tonearm looks very cool. Check out the video to see it in action. Opinions?

I saw an arm similar to this one but I forgot the name of the company it was very impressive and very expensive.

This sort of idea has been tried before, from the Nasotec articulating headshell all the way back to Ye Olde Garrard Zero 100. I haven't tried them all and haven't even seen the Klaudio, but in general I think the "cure" of a tangential arm is worse than the "disease" of tracking error. if I were truly concerned with trying to eliminate tracking error - and I'm not - I'd go with a true linear tracking arm.

Klaudio is very proud of this arm at $8500 retail.

It will be interesting to see if or how they solved the bearing friction problems that have troubled previous similar designs.

I'm a fan of the tangential tracking concept but think an active approach like the one B&O uses has a better chance of remaining truly tangential while eliminating cantilever side loads.

Tom... they are using a new patent, air bearings.

If you want to look at a pivoted arm that does something similar, look at the Thales Simplicity II tonearm or their new Statement tonearm. Spectacular and the go to arm for many.

That's the arm I was referring to. It was a great listening moment.

Hey Ivan. I was just poking around the Legend Audio website and clicked on the Klaudio link, just to check out their RCM's when I saw their tangential tonearms. After looking at their videos I am truly amazed at the engineering involved and how relatively simple the setup and cartridge alignment appears to be.

Have you seen this arm in action, or heard it? If so, I'd like your thoughts on it. What type of tables can this arm be mounted on? What type of arm board does it take?

Just an FYI thing for me. One never knows what the future may hold. :scratch2:
