Christmas Music

Okay, I'll start this thread with the hope I'm going to discover some new Christmas music I can actually listen to.

I'm 67 and my earliest memories have been music. My first real record at 4, my first record player at 7 and my mother throwing a stack of Christmas records on the the changer. And then she'd turn them over. And over. And over.

I'm sorry. I don't really like Christmas music. I love the holidays, I love the happiness, the parties and all the fun times. I just don't love the, (what I experience) the simple, and sometimes dippy Christmas songs.

Please don't take offense if you're a lover of the classics. That's not my intention. But really, there's gotta be some more happening music, right?

Here's Charles Brown, singing Merry Christmas Baby.

Please add your favorites so I can build a playlist and not be accused of "you never play Christmas music."

Thank you!

- Bob

Christmas Music

Here are a few that are a little off the beaten path:

Leon Redbone: Christmas Island - Dr. John joins in on “Frosty”
Don Lanphere: Year ‘Round Christmas (jazz)
Mark O’Connor: An Appalachian Christmas (bluegrass/Appalachian folk)
Canadian Brass: A Canadian Brass Christmas (traditional but just gorgeous horn harmonies, no singing)
John Fahey: The New Possibility: John Fahey's Guitar Soli Christmas Album (an oldie but great solo guitar playing)

My preferences differ year to year, but Dave Brubeck's and Oscar Peterson's are standbys. Other favorites include traditional Christmas carols on a couple albums from Cambridge University college choirs, and White Christmas by Oscar's Motet Choir.

A fairly amusing holiday show with great music is the Netflix "A Very Murray Christmas", part of which was shot in one of my favorite bars.

I have a favorite Christmas song - just one.

“Mele Kalikimaka” by Bing Crosby with the Andrews Sisters.

Dean Martin. Baby it's Cold Outside. The song has come under attack recently because I guess 1949 values don't mesh with today's norms.:thumbsup::music:
