B&W 801 Nautilus... ?

Hi... is the B&W 801 Nautilus still a force?
If the speakers are original, from about 1999?
I suppose the entire speaker to be original.
Although almost twenty years old, how does the 801 N compare to other, newer, speakers?
Appreciate the responses. Thank you.

Still a force.

Agree, still a force... Good price now also. Just FYI you will need world class electronics ($$$$) with any speakers in the 800 N lineup. If you don't match correctly they will greet you with harshness. They are basically telling you about any weakness upstream.

Mine N801s are still going strong as well. I no longer audition any potential replacement speakers so, by definition, I will be happy with these until the speaker surrounds rot away.

Did anyone hear the updated 801D and have an opinion whether it was an improvement over the Nautilus version?

So, suppose you had the 801 Nautilus in good condition...
how about McIntosh 1.2k monos and the rest of components McIntosh, too?
What about speaker cable and interconnects?

The 801s are for 2 channel music. Not theater.
The N801 looks so good!

My N804 + ASW800 are still being used daily in my musical environment. The Nautilus line is a timeless lineup.

spending that much on amps for speakers that can be bettered by current speakers for a few thousand dollars is audio system way out of balance to me. The 801 was a force in its day, and certainly still can play quite loud with power, but in terms of transparency and resolution, it is not competitive today with speakers for a few thousand dollars - which coupled with amps at that price would also make no sense. By today's standards, the 801's are tremendously colored.
