How good was the Nakamichi Dragon?

By the prices on E-Bay you get the idea it was pretty awesome. the million dollar question is how does it stack up by todays standards?

Tape, like all things analog seems to be making a comeback...

One of the very best cassette decks out there.

It's a classic vintage piece so may be of value to some. In terms of SQ, at least for me, I would not invest in cassettes. R2R and vinyl are in my opinion much different. Way back when...I did have a CR7A which I preferred over the dragon.

But again the value is with the individual listener

My dad had one and absolutely loved it.

It's a fabulous deck, mine hasn't worked for a long time but I just can't let it go. One day I'll get it back up to the mark....

I love mine. It's in the same category as my MR78

It's a great machine that I have no use for but I can't bring myself to sell it

Wow, great to hear such words.

Can you record a tape and get it to sound close to the vinyl or digital source? Are they good enoug?. Seems like a lot of enthusiasm for tape. I just missed a C7 because it went or almost 1000 dollars and MA-R tapes are getting 75 dollars and up!

Revox just announce they are making a new reel to reel also.....

Very good but not the best sounding deck of its day.

At Sound Components, we used to dub 30ips or 15ips 2 track masters to high end cassette decks in real time to do comparisons for customers. The Dragon was quite good. The big Tandbergs simply sounded much more like the Masters every time.

To the Dragon's credit, it was much more reliable than the Tandbergs.

If people are paying big money for old TOTL cassette decks, then now may be the time to cash in if you have one unused. Could be a fairly brief window of opportunity to my way of thinking... hey, I could be wrong...
