Trying a REL S2

So far, so good.
I used to own a R528 and it was simply too much for my smaller room.
Also tried an S3 a few weeks ago and still a bit too much. The S2 seems to be a good fit with my Sonus Faber Guarneri Evolutions.
May try two of them also. Have read many positives about running dual subs, rather than only one.

What is the size of your room?

I have a Rel G2 in a rather small room (12 X 14.5 X 9) with my SF Amati Futura's. I don't feel it presents any issues and sounds really good. I almost can't tell I have it in there until I turn it off.

I also have (2) R-218's with SF Elipsa Auditor's in my HT set up, but also listen to music from time to time. Albeit these are in a much larger room, it still blends in effortlessly with the Elipsa Auditor's. It sounds as if I have 2 floor standers.

I have a dedicated room that is 11X15.5' and a 9.5' ceiling, however I have an angled wall behind my listening seat. It has always been bass challenged.

But isn't it the case that it's always easier to tone the subwoofer down or help the
issue via bass traps from a bigger sub rather than changing it for a smaller one that in
some cases it may be more strained and may not pressurize the room as effortless?
And there is also option to try different placement in the room. Did you try to add
some sort of absortion in that particular area?

This was my assumption originally as well.
I tried the R528 and the S3. Both were next to impossible to seamlessly blend in my room.
My understanding is that the larger they are the lower they go, and the lower they go, the longer those sound
wave lengths are and the larger the room needed to support them effectively. The smaller S2 seems to blend seamlessly.
I have it raised off of the floor about 2' and along the right side long wall. I arrived at this place by placing the sub in the exact listening seat and at ear level height and then crawling around my floor perimeter to find the best and cleanest bass/extension.

I like the S2, and use one with Focal Aria 906, where it blends very well. I also use Longbow with it, and was surprised how effective it is.

But I could not use it with my Guarneri Evos - regardless of settings and position, it damaged the transparency of the Evos, and reduced the quality of the bass. I think the Evos need the G2 - the minimum low pass setting on the S2 is 30Hz, which in conjunction with the gentle crossover roll-off that REL use, was too high for me. But have decided, for me, that the Guarneri are best with no sub at all.

Have you really raised your S2 by 2 feet, or did you mean 2 inches? I put Stillpoints under mine, and there was a significant improvement. Will depend on the floor construction, I suspect.

Your technique for evaluating best position is excellent
