From the Renaissance and the Main LVCC. Definately more activity than last year but some lackluster items, will explain in review after pics.

So for the write-up...

This one is far simpler. Yes, the big thing was 3d Television. Based off of 25 year old technology. Needless to say we are taking one huge step back. Every manufacturer showed their version of 3d (which all had their faults and all were really not THAT impressive unless you have that much interest in it), every manufacturer showed a tiny tiny OLED screen (as seen from LG, the coolest designed one in the group), every manufacturer showed their new plasmas and LCD's. Samsung had the most promising LED (as usual), and Panasonic had the 152" plasma, which was HUGE (and 4k resolution - not bad at 20' viewing distance).

The McIntosh booth was lackluster at best. The only thing of mention was the 881 with a tray that would not open (though it is an exact copy of the MCD500 rig), and the actual UI for the MX150, which was very nice to see. They were playing the normal "I'm an audiophile listen to my wierd Jazz music" on a tube integrated with the Snell speakers they were pushing last year. I am wondering perhaps who Mac/Snell has really pissed off at CES/CEA since they used to be the PRIME spot with extensive exposure and have been moved and moved to the most remote places over the past few years (they were stuck in a "suite" at the Renaissance hotel next to the LVCC).

Unfortunately, 3dTV is another fad we will have to live with/through, all while that market has become little more than a commodity now. While the Venetian had its perks, AEE was the most fun this year, by far (last year it sucked right as bad as CES did but at least Mac had the XR200's blasting and that made the show for me).

+1 on the Gaja. None of that California swill for me. :lmao:

I didn't know the 881's could play without interconnects. Now that is advanced.
