So I just got my Schiit Sys from amazon a few minutes ago (gotta love prime with its upgrade to same day shipping) and I just hooked it up now.

First impressions, it is a much better choice of an "in a pinch" preamp than a cheap Little Bear Chinese preamp (I upgraded the 6J1 tubes to Western Electric 403b tubes incase anyone cared). The annoying buzzing in the right channel is gone totally and the sound is as good or better.

Now the draw back is for me I have the volume know at about 3 o'clock. Now I am using a 1st gen Wavelength Brick and I remember reading that the output is less than an average CD player so I am guessing that its a fairly low output device and probably needs some gain in most setups. For me its ok because I'm running sensitive speakers (Omega 3U) in a nearfield setup.

So the Schiit Sys I'm going to call a success as I think it sounds better out of the box, and I can live with it til I can order a proper preamp from Dennis.

Good news squirrelman! Great when there's a solution that doesn't cost an arm and a leg for once! Particularly when it is a temporary one. My Sys is in a drawer now, but I like having it in my supplies for when there is a need again - and I'm sure there will be sometime.

Welcome Jimi, I have both the 6v6 and his new 2wpc 45 amp. You are right! Both are fantastic.

I'm loving the new 45.

Nice! I love that copper color. Are the two amps in two different systems? What speakers are you running?

jimi55 04-08-2015 12:14 PM

Right now I have the Sweet 807 with a pair of the KLH 17 and the 6L6 Fire Bottle with a pair of the Dynaco A25. Using a Juicy Music Blueberry preamp right now but will be getting a new pre from Dennis soon. Plenty of beautiful music in my small listening space.

KLH 17's eh? I had AR4x's back in the 70's, then Large Advents. I picked up some AR2ax's a couple of years ago and restored them. Wonderful speakers. I'm not familiar with KLH directly, but I bet similar given the involvement of Kloss in all of the above.

I found my Inspire just managed to power my ~87db AR2ax's. How is yours doing with the KLH's?

I'm not familiar with the Dynacos, but I believe they are of the same era, but ported. Maybe a bit easier to drive given they are not sealed.
