It's quite possible that the preferred tube depends on the rest of the system and personal taste.

Apparently Dennis has said its safe to use in his power amps (non infinite PS) but I am unsure of his pre’s.
Looks like this tube draws 4amps instead of 2amps of the regular 274b

Thanks

The 4 amp filament current may be a problem. I don't know what the PT is spec'ed for in that build, but most rectifers don't generally pull more than 3A.

Thank you, I figured its best to proceed with caution. I’ve emailed Dennis, fingers crossed.

LP-2030 rectifier

Using only 301/201 tubes in the LP-2030 preamp, what rectifier tubes have people used and liked?

I dunno how much difference rectifier changes will make since Dennis is using a VR tube on each channel....

I have a Decware Ultra preamp that uses VR tubes and changing the rectifier tube makes a difference. That preamp responds very well to type 80 rectifiers.

My 2030 has a UX4 socket and I'm using a TJ Full Music 274A rectifier and I thought :scratch2: it sounded better than the 5Z3 I was using. But, in audio, thoughts can be deceiving.

Mtn Dave what are you using?

MTNDave 09-29-2021 08:06 AM

Currently, I am using a type 80 globe. As time goes by, I will try a 5ar4 circa 1955, Bendix 6106, CV 1863, Sylvania 5931 circa 1957 and a RCA 5r4gy V getters. This will take some time. :nopity:

Interesting, I hadn't thought about rolling rectifiers in the 2030 - mine came with a 5U4G, but maybe I should try some others. I will be interested to hear your collective thoughts on how the various rectifiers impact sonics.:music:
