Plinius makes some nice stuff. I heard one of the integrated amps a couple of years ago.

doggiehowser 10-19-2012 10:41 AM

I love my SA-Reference

Masterlu 10-19-2012 10:52 AM

Plinius has great synergy with Sonus Faber.

PHC1 10-19-2012 12:12 PM

I've always enjoyed Plinius brand. My local dealer friend carries Plinius and their gear sounds great with Verity Audio speakers. :music:

I have read some good stuff about Plinius....looking forward to your evaluations, Ivan.

Love the chunky look.

BTW, msrp?

Davkj 10-22-2012 08:06 PM

Very interested in your thoughts. I am auditioning a P-10, which seems to be the power amp section of the integrated. So far I am pretty impressed with this little guy!

I just gave away 2 P-7's that I had for 20 years, they definitely punch above their weight.

Just got back from dinner; the Plinius was delivered.

I'm thinking about trying this with Venere.

Noice.

Wait till you see the crate the SA-Reference comes in :)

BTW, is this going to be the same system as the Esoteric?

No, different. ;)

This is a very well designed, and hefty unit. Might pair it up with some Auditors. :scratch2:

EightZeroZeroDelta 11-04-2012 03:02 AM

Any updates/opinions yet?

Masterlu 11-04-2012 01:39 PM

Sean... This is a great sounding integrated, I listened to it with SF Auditors.

I think Plinius just needs more brand recognition/advertising.

I already made my decision to pick up the line.

That is great to hear, Ivan. On all counts. I have read some good stuff about them. I like their styling, that is for sure.

Ivan,

Any further thoughts on the Hautonga? Just read the review in TAS by Paul Seydor and it's piqued my interest. He used it with QUAD 2805 speakers which shouldn't be all that different from my 989's. He seemed pretty impressed with the unit.

At one point I'd thought about simplifying my life by getting the Plinius 9200, trading in my tubed equipment and then just let the idea go. Wondering again, though.

Thanks,

Thanks,

Joe as a one time Plinius owner, do yourself a favor and sit down until the thought passes. As SS goes the Plinius equipment is very good indeed, but based on the feedback you gave me about tubes on the CJ forum a few weeks ago and the subtle nuances you so aptly pointed out, me thinks you would not be happy.

Regards, Mark

Great amp with stats! Using the one we have in for review on my Acoustats with excellent results....

o0OBillO0o 03-21-2013 02:45 PM

Interesting, I just won't say its name. Ever. it's that cool Plinius thing.. you know- the integrated.

tom_hankins 06-02-2013 03:55 PM

Has anyone used/tried the phonostages in the Plinius integrateds?

Phono in the 9200 wasn't bad. I wouldn't let the phono be the deciding factor in buying the unit though.

I owned a Hautonga for a while. A great amp for the money with plenty of power for my B&W 804's. I wish that I could have kept it but I have too many toys in my sound room and something had to go to make way for the new gear.

Mister Pig 08-23-2018 09:51 AM

A couple of weeks ago I just bought a Plinius Hautonga pre amp off the used market. It is a legacy product for them now, looks like it went out of production a year or so ago. Seems like the company gets a lot of praise for the amps, but the pre's are kind of overlooked.

I thought long and hard about buying this, cause its huge, has a ton of boards in it, and does not seem to shield the power supply well from the rest of the electronics. I bought it anyways, putting a bit of faith in the few written reviews out there. So very glad I did, as this is an excellent pre amp. I am really pleased with its level of performance in all areas of music. A very well rounded component that is neutral in tonal balance, extremely low noise floor, images well, and has honest bass response. Very well built and finished also.

While it was not cheap, it certainly was worth every dollar spent.

Cheers
Mister Pig

hi
I'm looking at buying the Hautonga and was wondering what DAC would be a good match. I realise it's like asking how long is a piece of string. Thanks

Masterlu 09-18-2018 11:14 PM

I have a Hautonga as well and am really enjoying it. I recently borrowed a Bryston BDA-3 from a friend for an audition and thought it sounded great. It’s on my wish list now.

Sound Dragon 03-20-2020 11:21 AM

I am a happy Hautonga owner. I find it suits me quite nicely.
