Sony LMP-H220 projector lamp life

I bought the new Sony VPL-VW285 ES 4K projector back in late October of 2017.

According to the “hours use” meter on the unit, I have used it 4003 hours in the last 10 months (yes, it is on 11 hours a day sometimes).

The lamp is rated for 6000 hours, however, at 4003 hours, I am now getting a message when it powers up to “please replace the lamp”.

The picture still looks fine and bright.

I bought this partly due to the long life of the lamp—the Sony replacement OEM lamps are $500.

I sort of feel duped—like they owe me another 2000 hours of lamp life!

I know—first world problems...

Anyone else run this lamp for 6000 hours? I do know it is used in a couple other projectors from Sony.

I am not familiar with this projector. I have owned many projectors in the past and these comments may not necessarily apply to yours.

-Projectors usually have different settings for light intensity. You may be using it at the highest intensity and maybe that could have prompted the message even though the counter has not reached 6000 hours.
- some bulbs die nicely with no drama. Others can actually explode. Not sure which type of bulb you have. If you have one known to die with no drama, you can reset the counter back to zero and the message will go away. Then you can keep using the bulb until it dies.
-when buying replacement bulbs, quality matters: buy OEM bulbs. Don’t try to save buying third party stuff.
- and then one final thought: a year has 8760 hours, nearly 3000 of that you are supposed to be sleeping. Say another 1000 hours for daily necessities like eating/bathing/etc. You now have 4760 hours left and you are spending 4003 hours watching stuff in a room. That leaves you with 757 hours or roughly 2 hours per day to do other stuff.
PS#1 You should spend more time outside! [emoji3]
PS#2 I forgot to count 2080 hours for work so you must certainly be retired! All is well! [emoji108]

OP,

I have had many-many Lamp based Runco projectors and still have one until this coming Monday.

I am so over changing those lamp assemblies out and in my case mine are $999.00 dollars.

And they Do-Not last the hours quoted, ever

Click on link below if interested and see what I decided on as I'm totally over Lamp-Based-Projectors.
