US Navy Blue Angels
Last fall we traveled to Georgia with our Airstream to attend the Wings over North Georgia airshow. The airshow provides 50 premier RV spaces right on the flight line so we jumped at the chance to see the action from the front row. The RV spaces are actually on the tarmac. This week we are heading to see the same airshow at Wings over Myrtle Beach in Myrtle Beach, SC. Once again we managed to get a premier spot on the flight line. I've had some amazing front row seats before but none were a match for this level of front row seating.
Here's my Ford F-350 and our Airstream parked on the flight line (literally) ready for the action. The hangar in the background is actually beside the airport terminal. The temporary fence was placed around the RV area to protect the aircraft. https://www.audioaficionado.org/pict...pictureid=4706 Here's a photo my wife took one evening while we were sitting outside the Airstream enjoying dinner. This was the evening view from our Airstream for four days: https://www.audioaficionado.org/pict...pictureid=4707 This was the view from our Airstream with morning coffee: https://www.audioaficionado.org/pict...pictureid=4708 Needless to say, we are more than excited at the opportunity to return for another amazing weekend of awesome sound and sights. |

That is really cool. Enjoy!!! |
What a beautiful sight to wake up to:thumbsup:! I saw them many years ago and it's probably the best show of any I've ever seen live bar none.

The Blue Angels practice on Thursday and Friday at precisely 3:00 pm. Since the RV crowd is the only people around for these events it was easy to get up close and personal. Takeoff in the F/A-18 is something to behold when the pilot is intentionally showing off aircraft capabilities. Sound at this close range is also something to behold.

My wife was like a little kid at Christmas to have the opportunity to photograph the Blue Angels so close to us. I really enjoyed the sound. :)

Looks great! I have the night shot as the desktop on my Mac Pro. I catch myself just staring at it in awe at times. I have the highest respect for our military and seeing them in action certainly leaves one in awe. |
Terry,
Wow! An incredible spectacle for sure. I saw them from a boat years ago in Annapolis. So impressive, on my bucket list to see again. Enjoy! Jerry |
Nice pics! I live in Jacksonville Fl. They come to town every year and they never disappoint. I was in the unit that transitioned them to the FA18 from the A4 in the 80s. Their first show in the FA18 was right in front of our hangar. Very cool. I was a maintenance guy, but I was back seat qualified to fly out to repair aircraft stuck on bases without Hornet support. I have about 100 hours riding backseat in the FA18 Hornet. Not many things come close to that experience in a lifetime.

Pete,
Wow, I can only imagine what it must be like to fly in an aircraft like the F/A-18. That would have to be the experience of the lifetime. Thanks for sharing and your service. |
