New Alpha PCs in the system
Just picked these up from my dealer, an Alpha NR and EF. The NR is for the phonostage and the EF for the Linn Klimax Streamer, which requires the smaller plug. I installed Alphas in the rest of the system last year (preamp, amp and Denali), so this completes the transition from Ztron series to Alpha for all power and ICs - excellent cables, thanks Caelin. Next will be speaker cables, which are now Shunyata Cobra Ztron, but that will be a little while yet - the Ztrons are still great cables, and other priorities may get in the way.

Good for you Tony, and I like how they use a quality card.

Thanks Ed & Stephen, I just hooked them up today but I’ll be away all week, so no listening until this weekend.☹️

New Alpha PCs in the system
I’ve had a chance to do some listening in the last couple of days. I’m hearing a bit tighter/more specific imaging and a slightly deeper and wider soundstage. A nice improvement but nothing revelatory - but since I’ve already been using a Denali, the two components previously had Cobra Ztrons, and the rest of the system was already on Alphas, I wasn’t expecting an earth-shattering change. A worthwhile update, and now the whole system is Alpha PCs.

Congrats Tony.

Thanks Steve. See you in a couple of weeks.

Thank you for sharing your impressions Tony.

Please see my post of August 19. |
Thanks guys, impressions already posted a couple of months ago, further back in this thread. Shunyata uses a proprietary process called KPIP, which pretty much eliminates the need for any extended burn-in - I’ve found the sound doesn’t really change meaningfully over time, so I have no post-break-in impressions to report.

I replaced a 7m run of Anaconda Zitron with Sigma for a clear improvement in transparency and a significant improvement in tonal depth. I may be understating the move from Cobra. :-o The Alpha SC (which I have not heard) is similar to Sigma (6ga vs 7ga + HARP) and may be in the value sweet spot, but try the Sigma if you have an opportunity. They still may be on sale. |

Thanks Tim, I missed this post. I’ll put the Sigmas on the list and see if I can swing them when the time comes. |
I have tested Alpha level (various),...they are "the" sweet spot at a great price in the line. Sigma is wonderful but if budgets don't allow, Alpha, IMHO gets you damned close!

Shunyata's current 20%-off promotion finally got me to pull the trigger on an Alpha NR pc for my preamp (to replace my Harmonic Technology pc), and a pair of Alpha speaker cables (to replace my ancient MIT Shotgun SCs)! They should arrive sometime in January. A treat to start the new year! Thanks, Ivan!
