AM radio alive and very well in North Dakota

Hey guys, I've been meaning to post this for awhile. The last few months I've been doing a lot of trips between Fargo and Bismarck for work and the last couple times I spent time checking out the AM radio market there. It's pretty amazing. I heard at least 4 different music only stations, one was the syndicated true oldies channel, 2 were country and I can't recall the fourth. Tons of talk radio as well, I heard one station that was so local they had an announcement about a lost cat! I talked to a friend of mine who is in AM radio here in Chicago and he said the flat land and something with the soil there is great for AM. I never thought I'd find more AM stations in North Dakota than Chicago. Has anyone else been in areas with a large amount of AM content?

Steve.......Florida has a number of AM stations. Jacksonville even has a popular AM station that simulcast's its signal on an FM channel. Lots of people really enjoy local radio, particularly in smaller local markets.

Here in Montreal we have around 10 AM stations. Two of those stations broadcasts in AM stereo...

I didn't think anybody listened to AM radio anymore. The only time I do is if I'm trying to get a traffic report while I'm driving. Our local sports talk radio station switched from AM to FM a couple of years ago and that was the last time I listened at any length to AM radio. I hardly ever listen to FM now days since I got XM in both cars.

I'm not surprised there are a lot of AM stations out there. The broadcasting range of AM is MUCH greater than FM.

We have lots of AM stations in NY, but the only one I listen to is WCBS news radio 880.

I don't know why they can't have better sound quality than they do despite their limited audio frequency range.
