Relentless

Dan's new amp is called the "Relentless" and will be an all-out assault on SOTA amplifier design and capability.

Bill McKiegan was at Definitive's Music Matters last night in Seattle (also there tonight). He was demonstrating the Progression preamp and stereo amp.

I don't know much, but they are said to be 1500/3000/6000 watts each, and weigh hundreds of pounds. Here is a pic of the meter, it is HUGE. I guess it will be unveiled in Munich.

Woooo-hoooo! Ain't that something!

With 6,000w Perhaps the new line should have been called "Reckless"! :D

Masterlu 03-08-2018 01:53 PM

Very nice, as long as the price isn’t Relentless. ;)

vintage_tube 03-08-2018 02:04 PM

650+ pound each mono behemoths (remember the Krell MRA; 683 pound babies that took 6 folks to unpack/move????). Someone mentioned & just kidding they were, but appropriate, output not measured in watts but joules.:lmao:

Estimated $250K pair. I bet he'll sell everyone he builds.

Building for Munich unveil.

Best Sirs,

Bob

Apparently he just changed the name, he used to call it helius. It sounds incredible... Separate amps for the plus and minus on each channel!

6,000w is 52 amps at 115v. So I imagine these will have to be run from 240v lines. Even Better question would be which speakers can handle 6000w peaks. :D

I believe you're correct on the first part -- his MRA's were 240v IIRC.

Bob

I love my Momentum, but I’m thinking “Ree-diculous” might also be a good name for these.🤣

Antonmb 03-08-2018 02:41 PM

When I first saw the meter last night i thought it was a clock. I told Bill they should make one...

8 hp

Hmmm. Time to ditch watts. These are 8 horsepower per channel!

Relentless will probably be one of many terms you could use to describe the price.

Dan is a very passionate designer. While I agree and do not see much need for monster amps like these at all, for the typical home HiFi setup, no doubt in my mind he will find plenty of clients, especially overseas. What's a $250-275k pair of mono blocks when a Tibetan Mastiff puppy goes for $2M in some parts of the world.

Masterlu 03-08-2018 02:49 PM

Horses, Puppies, is this thread in the right forum? :lmao:

Nice one!

I guess we add these to my "Unobtainium" list that includes the MBL xTremes, and a full stack of either dCS Vivaldi or MSB Select II. Maybe I shouldn;t have retired early. :D

Jim, that would be quite the system!

I heard $350K and there has been an issue with oxidized copper from a supplier but I bet they sound great.

That maybe too much -- my dealer who was just out in Carefree w/Dan says $250K neighborhood.

Understand a static display in Munich -- just enough to :stirthepot:

Bob,
I hope you're correct. A dealer I work with mentioned that a couple months ago when they were still called Helios. A pair for each WAMM??

Dave

Yep, the Wamm Chronosonic would love these amps. At 1.7 ohms, the speaker may as well present a dead short to any other amplifier. :D Would love to hear this pairing.

Watch the video I posted, Dan says 250k.

Not that it matters to us [emoji23]

vegaracer1 03-08-2018 06:00 PM

I think I need these for my 13.2 surround build.:)

Sharp 1080 03-08-2018 06:06 PM

Wow, definitely a super amplifier. I was told they are slightly behind on their builds when I called about my amp build.

PHC1 03-08-2018 06:14 PM

250k for 1300lbs for the pair is only $192 per lb! That's cheaper than some of the cheeses out there like the Moose cheese from Sweden at $455 a lb. :D Yes, I'll take a quarter pound thinly sliced please. :D

PHC1 03-08-2018 06:24 PM

Rumor has it, 30 pairs have already been presold.

Yes I saw that number on a post from 2014...probably much higher now.

We've discussed this amp before right here on AA, but we all thought it was called helius, and nobody knew when it might launch.

Old news then. Yes, I imagine it is more by now.

docmd2010 03-08-2018 11:22 PM

I've got to think that Dan designed this amp specifically for WAMM owners. Dave Wilson built 70 WAMM's right? If you can spend 700K on a pair of WAMM's, you no doubt will drop 250-275K on amps. I bet at least half of WAMM owners get these.

I also think some owners of XLF's may get them as well as possibly people with Magico Q7's and of course the top end MBL lines.

Very beautiful amplifier. Truly balanced amp! Amazing feat of craftmanship and engineering by D'Ag.

docmd2010 03-08-2018 11:24 PM

Also, will there be a relentless pre-amp?

No doubt a crazy schittless amplifier[emoji50]

You know things may be getting out of hand in the audio hobby when we’re comparing amplifiers to expensive Swedish Moose cheese. :roflmao:
