Table Saw Purchase

Evening Greetings-

I am in need of a table saw. It will be housed in the garage, stored in a corner and set up in a bay after the car is moved out. Pretty much home owner smaller projects.

I want the ability to rip a 4 x 8 sheet but may well never need to do so. Dado's are important as well as something "pretty" solid.

After some on-line research and in store looking, my pick is the Dewalt 7491RS. All comments welcome.

Thanks!

John... I'm a fan of DeWalt, in fact recently bought their best radial arm miter saw and collapsible stand. Sorry, but I don't have any experience with their table saws.

John.......The DeWalt 7491RS looks like a great table saw. I'd like to have one and I don't even need it. :)

Hey Guys-

Thanks for getting back. That was a great review Dan; gave me some more insight; enough to go with it.

And Quicksilver's Anthology is sounding better than ever with the LPI!

I've had a Ridgid portable similar to the DW. Love my saw.

Go with a contractor saw.

General International, Powermatic, Delta, and SawStop would be on my short list.

SawStop is a phenomenal piece of equipment.

I have owned the General International Conractor saw and now own the Industrial Cabinet Saw from Saw Stop.

Also for breaking down 4x8 sheets, a circular saw and a guide rail system is a viable option.

I own Festool tools for jobs like this.

A Clear Spot and Joe-

Thanks for the info.

i did look at the Ridget. Around my neck of the woods, Dewalt has more support and service options.

The SawStop and Festool stuff is quite interesting. Especially to a guy who taught industrial arts for 33 years and worked some summers and part time hours during the school year working with a home builder.

For now I seem to be going with the Dewalt.

I have had a 7491 RS for five years and it's perfect for home DIY repairs and remodel projects. This saw combined with a DEWALT DWS780 Miter Saw has most home projects covered.

Steve-

Good to hear. I finally got mine set up yesterday and made some cuts. It will work out well for my needs. I agree on the miter saw. I never realized how handy they were until I had one.
