Accuphase P-4200

I heard this new baby of the Accuphase A/B lineup@ CES, and I was very impressed. It is very dynamic, great frequency extension, and great soundstage. Anyway, do not overlook this one. The quality is there.

Yet another very attractive piece from Accuphase.

But of course! :smoking:

Dave.......No doubt about it, the Accuphase P-4200 is a beauty. I prefer the analog meters over the digital bar graph or the digital numerical display going up and down. The meters are more elegant. !80 watts per channel into 4 ohms is a nice power point for nearly all systems.

Exactly. I like the analog meters better as well. Yeah, it's pretty powerful. If it wasn't for the A-46 (being Class A and MOS-FETs output transistors,) I would be all over this amp. Matter of fact, I might buy it anyway.

This could very well be my intermediate amp until the A70..
Wonder if P7200 is on the horizon, guess all Vu wipers being replaced by bargraph.

4RE, P-7100 is older than A-65. I believe the P-7100 amp is at least 6 years old, and currently is the only amp in the Accuphase arsenal that does not have MOS-FETs. (I was quite surprised that it was not updated in the fall of 2013.) Since the life cycle of the top-of-the-line Accuphase amps is 5.5 - 6 years, my prediction is that the P-7100 amp will be updated somewhere soon this year (e.g. this spring). IMO the A-65 will be updated only in 2015, though the fall of 2014 is also a possibility.

Dave_72, I am “sorry” to read that now you are considering to buy the P-4200 (which I am sure is excellent). What has happened with that “cheap” A-65 amp? Were you afraid it will not have enough control over the woofers of your JBL speakers?

Well, what happened is that I took a long hard look at my finances, and the A-65 is just out of my price range really, even at the discounted price from my dealer. So, it's either gonna be the P-4200 or the A-46. I hope this explains it. Any questions, feel free. The executive Vice President/engineer of Accuphase told me that either amp will work with my speakers (JBL S4700s)

I am sorry to read your reply Dave, especially since the A-70 is shown in the pictures together with JBL speakers. (Maybe the dealer is able to give you a bigger discount now that the news of A-70 is out.)

Yeah, I noticed that. I really want the A-70 now though after seeing those pics! I wish I had more money to throw around. I'm being realistic here. The prices here are just so damn high. :icon_thumbsdown:

So, in order to get the A-70 I probably would have to save up for at least another year, maybe 2 years. Perhaps it is worth the wait rather than go for the cheaper models.
