Replacing MC152 with MC302 Amplifier
I just made a purchase, trading in my MC152 150wpc amp for a MC302 300wpc amplifier. I think this will pair nicely with my C2500 preamp. The only reason I am doing this is because I feel my system will benefit from the extra power and amperage.
While I am not looking for validation, I do wonder what you think. A good or bad move, sideways move, etc? I am getting this from a dealer and they will be taking my amp as trade in. This whole process will take a couple of weeks as they are close to the West Coast. They have rated it a 9 and it has both factory boxes, the plywood and packing. I have purchased from this dealer before, buying an item rated an 8 and it looked brand new. I am excited but nervous. |
Replacing MC152 with MC302 Amplifier
Stereo_5 this is a good move am sure that dynamics will be more noticeable and soundstage will be more apparent. I heard a marked difference when I moved from MC452 to MC462 paired with C47.

I own JBL Array 1400s. I've owned both the 152 and 302. Both are good but could not control the woofers properly, resulting in 'bass bloom'. The 452 is clearly superior across the board. You would think that below clipping, the amps would sound very close if not identical. The 452 is an another league. I would audition both and stretch to afford the 452 if you can. Its definitely worth the difference.

I have already made the deal with the MC302 and it should arrive in about 2 weeks. My speakers, GE Triton Reference already have an 1800 watt amp in each speaker for the bass and it is controlled quite nicely, so the MC452 would be way overkill.

I received a notice from FedEx that my amp will be arriving Friday. Can't wait!

I absolutely love my 302. I’ve had it for 3 years and it’s been flawless. I’m upgrading to a 452 only because of the deal the vendors giving me on his demo unit.

Sorry to hijack the thread but I can't create new topics yet...
My 302 have never done this before but yesterday for the first time I saw that the Power Guard lights came on for 2 sec during the power up. I turned it off/on a dozen of times after that it now they come on (for 2 sec only) every time I power the unit on. It didn't do it before. I heard that many Mc amps do that regularly and it's fine but I'm curious why my amp didn't do it before and now all of a sudden it does it every time? Nothing has changed in my setup... |
Ivan told me it is normal.

It is normal operating procedure. Perhaps just didn’t notice it before; all 32 of my Mac amps do it during turn on.
