Here's my 805 Anniversary mono blocks. It uses 300b tube each. It's very sweet sounding, but not too lush. I'll post more in the future. Until then, let's see yours.

Mike...stunning pix and a work of art.

Thank you Dave. These amps sound better than they look. I use them more than I use my McIntosh MC2000 50th anniversary amp.

Mike....you're on a roll today with some great pics.

Last year I bought a new pair of those. I use them to drive my Magnepans on occasion (also owned the MC2000 years ago).
6 years ago I became smitten with single ended amps. They have a sound that draws me in. I have some "proper" speakers for the small SET's I own but thought I'd try these for the Maggies with their 50/70 wpc. I rarely listen at LOUD levels and so far it's working out. Really a sweet sound. Are you favoring the 211 or 845? Ever play with the feedback switch? |
I like the 845 tube paired with a solid state preamp. I don't understand the feedback knob so I don't touch it. Do you understand it?

In my case with the Maggies, I love this amp with a lot of music but when I listened to other music that was more dynamic, it would get a little fuzzy. That's when I tried the feedback for the first time. With the Maggies, it's a good thing. I don't lose much of that beautiful midrange but I gain a lot in the ability to start and stop that huge 4 ohm panel. One other tip. The manual calls for the bias for the 300b to be 60 mA. That's a good mid point for the 300b. I found 52 to 57 sounds better in my system. If you like the lower bias your tube will last longer but 60 isn't running it hard. Let your ears guide you. |
I posted these elsewhere, but what the heck.. Here's my SLP-05..
