Beatles, "Sargent Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band". Nothing I can say that hasn't all ready been said.

Jimmy Smith's "Prayer Meetin', with Stanley Turrentine, Donald Bailey, Quentin Warren & Sam Jones. Another excellent Blue Note 'Tone Poet' pressing.

Ricki Lee Jones, debut album.
This was the first CD I bought when I bought my first college system, some 35 years ago (Yamha receiver and Magnavox CD player, around 1988). This CD was recommended by the local shop for its recording quality. Getting in vinyl just recently (2020). So, researched Discogs for a good pressing, bought it, and what the heck??? Surface noise I can't get rid of. Hey, its vinyl. https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/..._QL70_ML2_.jpg |

I have the MFSL copy and it's as quiet as a mouse. Bob |

as this is the only disc I have with this kind of noise, I suspect I got a bad pressing. It is a Warner Bothers pressing, not 180 gram, and is visually perfect. Would need to research which exact pressing I might have, but academic at this point. I do clean all my disks, in a basic Spin-Clean set-up. So far, so good overall. Might look into the MFSL release - still like the music! |
