There's some new production tubes I have never heard.

Since we are doing tube porn (as opposed to porn tube :scratch2:), here's the new Sophia KT88. A whopping $400/pr for Grade A, $350/$275 for Grades B/C.

Peter.......What is the country of origin for the Sophia KT88?

From everything I have read the Sophia tubes are manufactured by Full Music in China. The tubes that they sell in the US are put through additional testing, matching, and quality control which adds to their cost and final pricing.

Good question Dan. I don't know. Their company history page (don't think I'm allowed to link it here) says they are an American company with amp and tube designers in the US. They have a US patent application in for their KT88. But who knows where they have their amps and tubes actually manufactured. Simonatsea says their tubes are produced by TJ Full music. Googling them indicates China. There are ebay sales of TJ Full Music tubes including one listing of KT88's that look very familiar (as in the photo a couple of posts back).

Now that I look, the PSVane KT88s also have the gold base and white center pin. An unusual combination. Maybe also the same manufacturer?

Psvane are produced by shuguang and sophia are made by TJ Full music box both of wich are in china. The TJ Full music factory is more of a boutique small batch outfit compared to shuguang.

If you are curious about the sophia kt-88 they are sold by tubestore as northern electric kt-88. Dennis has experience with these in his amps previously. Currently they are a little too pricey for my budget.

Simon.......

Thanks for the information. I knew the PSvanve tubes were manufactured in China. Other than the black coating on the tube envelope I thought the Sophia tubes looked identical which is why I asked. I'll be interested to know how they sound and how well they stand up over time.

To the best of my knowledge there are only 3 different tube manufacturing bases remaining in the world...China (exp. Shuguang)....Russia (exp. Svetlana)...and Czech Republic (exp. JJ's).

A recent feebay posting of Dennis' new monobloc's display them with Russian, Chinese, and NOS American made tubes....is there a message there?
